The culminating activity for our ‘On the farm’ unit was a visit to a working dairy farm. The children were excited to be out of school on an adventure into the country. We saw the cows being milked by machine and fed the chickens and sheep. Back to school to write all about our excursion!

Term 3 was very eventful and full of exciting activities and learning. We had Henny Penny Hatching bring an incubator and fertilised eggs into the classroom. By the end of 2 weeks we had 16 chicks in the classroom. The children watched as the chicks pecked their way out of the shell and were amazed to see that the chicks were wet when they came out of the egg and had to wait in the incubator to fluff up.

We are writing sentences and will soon focus on invitations and postcards. In handwriting, we are learning to fine tune our letters using the correct size, position and formation. Enquiring minds are minds that wonder and want to learn. I ask the question if we can breathe under water? Some say ‘Yes’, an some say ‘No’, so I bring in to share with the children my dive equipment and allow them to feel how heavy the weight belt is – no wonder I sink!

This term our focus of ‘Under the sea’ sees our classroom transformed into an underwater world. The children will be learning about being sun safe and water safe at the beach. Our ‘Learn to swim’ program is helping children to learn how to get to the side of water if they fall in. They are very enthusiastic swimmers!

A big THANK YOU goes out to all parents who responded to our requests for drama day costumes. A tremendous effort was put in by the children, I hope you enjoyed the story of the Prophet Nuh. At the end of the year, the Preps will be cleaning and packing our classroom up for their move into Year 1 and for the new Prep children who come in 2018. It is wonderful to watch the children grow as they move through the school. They are ready for Year 1 and for the fun and learning to begin again. Ursula Muncaster P 3 T h

This term, our Primary students have been attending the ‘Learn to Swim’ program at YMCA Acacia Ridge. They have been provided opportunities to learn through fun games, instruction and social interaction. Students have been encouraged to progress at their pace and improve their individual abilities. Well done to all students!

The Year 8s have been participating in Gymnastics this term and it is great to see their enthusiasm. The program focuses on participation and fun in a safe and structured environment. Students are taught by qualified coaches, both at the College and at their gymnasium. Thanks to the staff at YMCA and also to our Year 8’s for their efforts.

Yours in PE,

Mr. Pat Solano

QPASTT also runs school holiday activities, camps, homework support groups, family/community activities, and in-school programs tailored to specific needs of individuals, families and their communities.

In 2018, our College (AIIC) will work closely together with QPASTT in their “Whole School Approach Program” and groups of students and their parents will be invited to take part in a series of 5 group workshops.

The College would appreciate if you could attend this evening Monday, 6th November at 6.30pm. Please return the Attendance Form (also distributed with the Newsletter) to School Reception by Friday, 3rd November.
