Great amounts of this cal-careous sand found on the coralreefs is ground limestone thathas, for thousands of years, beencreated by the digestion processof the parrotfish. In addition, theremains of variousd shells give itit’s color, The sublime andworldwide famous colors of theCaribbean Sea are not due to thecolor of the water; but, in fact,it is the white sand which reflectsoff the bottom of the seaand creates the different tur-quoise colors.

To help preserve this delicatebalance, we begin by protecting

Para ayudar a conservar este deli-cado equilibrio podemos comen-zar por proteger al pez Loro y laerosión de las playas.

Para la preservación del pez Loro,tanto visitantes como locales,debemos de salvaguardar elarrecife, su hábitat y protecciónnatural. Para ello necesitamosevitar tocarlo, ya que los residuosquímicos de nuestra piel lodestruyen. Por la misma razón nodebemos utilizar bronceador al ira bucear y utilizar bloqueadoresamistosos con este medio acuáti-co. Es muy importante elegir cen-tros de buceo responsables, talescomo los que utilizan motores decuatro tiempos, ya que los de dostiempos derraman aceite al mar,también cuidar que utilicenamarras comunes y no arrojenanclas en el arrecife.

Para proteger las costas de lafuerte erosión de playas debemosde conocer la muralla naturalprotectora que se forma a lolargo de las costas y que recibe elnombre de Duna. Esta conforma-da por un montículo de arenaparalela al litoral con alturas delorden de uno a seis metros; éstaconstituye una importante defen-sa en casos de mareas altas ofuertes tormentas. Un modo decuidarla es obviamente no elimi-narla, pero también respetarmucho la vegetación costera na-

In order to preserve the parrotfish,visitors and local residents shouldprotect the reef, it’s environmentand natural protection. That is whywe need to avoid touching it, sincethe chemical residues of our skindestroy it. For the same reason, weshould not wear tanning lotionwhile scuba diving and we shouldonly use environment friendly sun-screen in this aquatic arena. It is veryimportant to choose responsibledive shops, such as those that usefor times (sorry, I do not know whatis meant by “times” engines)engines, as the two times enginesspill oil on the sea. Also be awarethat they should use commonmoorings and that they do not tosstheir anchors on the reef.

To protect the coasts from heavyerosion of the beaches, weshould know that the naturalbarrier formed along the coasts isa series of sand dunes. They areformed by a monticule of sandparallel to the littoral withheights from one to six metersand this makes for an importantdefense in case of high tides orstrong storms. A method of ta-

En el caso de eliminación total dela Duna, la playa sin su protec-ción natural, sufre efectos deerosión irreversibles y peor aún,se queda sin su reserva natural dearena que servirá para la recu-peración de las playas en perio-dos de fuertes erosiones. Así quesi eres un afortunado poseedorde un pedacito de paraíso oinversionista de una gran exten-sión de costa, piensa dos vecesantes de remover la duna o suvegetación natural ya que prontote quedaras sin lo más apreciadode tu inversión, la playa.

Una de las características másfamosas que hacen deleitable laarena del Caribe Mexicano es sinduda su temperatura, siempreesta fresca, esto te permiteemprender caminatas a lo largodel litoral sin sentir ningún tipode molestia en tus pies yescuchando como fondo elvaivén de las olas del mar.

La arena del Mar Caribe no soloes la peculiaridad más hermosade nuestras vacaciones opostales, también es un invalu-able factor de un asombroso yúnico ecosistema en nuestroplaneta, te invitamos a que la dis-frutes al máximo como un niño yla cuides como el turista respons-able que siempre ha caracteriza-do a la Riviera Maya.

If you arelucky enough to own a piece ofparadise, or you are an investoron the coast area, please thinktwice before removing a sanddune or its natural vegetation,since you will soon be left with-out the most precious part ofyour investment - the beach.

One of the most famous characte-ristics that make the Mexican Ca-ribbean so delightful is it’s weather.It is always fresh, which allows youto walk along the li-ttoral with nodiscomfort on your feet, as you lis-ten to the sound of the waves.

El mes pasado se llevó a cabo uno de los eventos de golf más impor-tantes de nuestro país, el Mayakoba Golf Classic, al cual asistierongrandes personalidades del golf, fanáticos locales y de toda larepública. El torneo fue todo un éxito, con los palcos VIP abarrotadosy grandes cantidades de espectadores siguiendo a los punteros, dis-frutamos todos de golf de primer nivel mundial en nuestro jovenQuintana Roo. Este torneo marca el gran inicio de la PGA en Méxicoy la enorme difusión turística que será para esta zona.

Last month, one of the most important golf events took place inMexico, the Mayakoba Golf Classic. This tournament marked thegreat start of the PGA TOUR in Mexico. We had the pleasure ofenjoying first-class golf in our young state of Quintana Roo, andthe honor of being the host to notable golf personalities and fansfrom all over the world. Mayakoba Golf Classic

Dear visitor, it is a truly pleasure to inform youthat the Mayakoba Golf Classic, the firsttournament of the PGA Tour in Mexico, wasa total success. We enjoyed four days ofspectacular golf! The players saved the best

for last, as the end wasvery exciting and emo-tional. 50 year old FredFunk, playing with anachy back befitting hissenior status, won theMayakoba Golf Classicon the second hole of aplayoff. He won bybeating Argentinian, JoseCoceres, thereby beco-

ming only the second man to win a PGA Tourevent after winning on the Champions Tour.

Funk earned his eighth PGA Tour victory,which brought his career earnings to

$20,146,189 (11th) and set thecourse record in the first roundwith a 62. The only downer toFunk’s feat is that he didn’t beatthe PGA Tour’s elite, as theworld’s top 64 players were inArizona for the Accenture MatchPlay Championship.

The victory was Funk’s first on thePGA Tour since The Players Championship in2005. It wasn’t his first title in México, pre-viously he won the 1993 México Open. Thevictory will likely bring him back to the Riviera

Maya next year, and perhaps formany years to come.
