REPORT

Why report drift incidents?

Once you have dealt with any immediate health risks, your next step is to report the driP to theappropriateagency.Repor;ngdriPisimportantforseveralreasons:

1. Repor$ng will help determine the extent of the damage. If the incident involves pes;cide driP,pes;cide misapplica;on, or an exposure at work, contact your state agency or tribal environmentaldepartment.

Theseagencieswillhelpyoudeterminetheextentofthedamage.Documen;ngdamageorexposureisnecessaryforcompensa;on,especiallyifthedamageisduetoaviola;onofthelaw.Youwillalsoneedtodocumentanydamageorexposure.

If you are a farmer repor;ng a driP incident on your crops, they will send a representa;ve to takesamplesfromanycropsorotherplantsthatmayhavebeendamaged.Thesampleanalysisresultswillhelp you decide what to do with any plants that were driPed on, and whether you need to seekcompensa;onfromtheapplicator.

2.Repor$ngwill supportenforcementofpes$cideapplica$on laws. Therewill beno inves;ga;on ifthereisnoreport.Some;meschemicalsareappliedincompliancewiththerulesandtheydriPanyway.SomecasesofdriParetheresultofusererror,suchasapplicatorsapplyingduringwindycondi;onsordisobeying other guidelines. In these cases, it is up to state or tribal agencies to inves;gate theapplicator’smistakes anddeterminewhether a fine is appropriate. If driP incidents arenot reported, thereisnoaccountabilityforapplicatorswhoarenotfollowingthecorrectprocedures.
