About Slow Cooking

Slow cooking has traditionally been used for soups and casseroles but it

can also cook most modern family meals. Slow cooking has always been

the best way to cook a delicious hot meal with the minimum preparation.

The cooking temperature is the same on both settings, so the setting you

choose merely dictates how quickly the slow cooker gets up to

temperature. The lower setting (usually 8 hour to 10 hours cooking times)

heats food gently, whereas the higher setting (4 hour to 6 hours cooking

times) will heat food quicker.

of time.

Instructions for use

Cooking

Place the base on a dry, level, heat resistant surface, away from the edge of the work surface. Do not use on the floor.

Place the ingredients into the ceramic pot and place the pot into the base.

Cover with the glass lid. If you need to pre-cook or brown ingredients prior to slow cooking, this must be done in a pan. Do not try to brown or pre-cook food in the slow cooker.

DO NOT place the Ceramic Pot and Lid on a hob or in an oven.

To begin cooking, plug the power cord into a suitable socket outlet and press the ON/OFF button once, the display will show 00:00.

To set the cooking time, press the COOKING TIME button the display will now flash. Press the UP or DOWN arrowed button to set the desired cooking time, each press of the buttons will increase or decrease the cooking time by 30 minutes.

Press the HIGH or LOW heat setting button (whichever is desired) to start cooking, the LED display will count down the set cooking time.

Once the cooking time has elapsed, the slow cooker will automatically switch to KEEP WARM mode for a period of up to 5 hours.

Setting the delay timer

If you wish to start the cooking later, set the delay timer as follows: Press the DELAY TIME button the display will flash 00:30, press the UP or DOWN arrow buttons until you reach your desired delay start time. Once the delay time has been set, the COOKING TIME can be set as above. NB The LED display will show the set delay time. Once the delay time has elapsed the display will revert to the cooking time. The maximum time you can set the delay time to is18 hours and the minimum 30 minutes.

Once the KEEP WARM time has elapsed the unit will automatically switch off.

Use oven gloves to remove the inner ceramic pot.

CAUTION: DO NOT TOUCH THE BASE UNIT IMMEDIATELY AFTER COOKING AS IT WILL REMAIN HOT FOR SOME TIME.

Warm function

Food can be kept warm in the slow cooker for up to 5 hours.

Food cooked in other appliances can be transferred to the slow cooker to be kept warm. NOTE: Beyond 5 hours food may become dry and the flavour may alter

Suitable Foods for Slow Cooking & Preparation

Most foods are suited to slow cooking methods; however there are a few

guidelines that need to be followed:

Cut root vegetables into small, even pieces, as they take longer to cook than meat. They should be gently sautéed for 2-3minutes before slow cooking. Ensure that root vegetables are always placed at the bottom of the pot and all ingredients are immersed in the cooking liquid.

Trim all excess fat from meat before cooking, since the slow cooking method does not allow fat to evaporate.

If adapting an existing recipe from conventional cooking, you may need to cut down on the amount of liquid used. Liquid will not evaporate from the slow cooker to the same extent as with conventional cooking.

Never leave uncooked food at room temperature in the slow cooker.

Do not use the slow cooker to reheat food.

Uncooked red beans must be soaked and boiled for at least 10 minutes to remove toxins before use in a slow cooker.

Insert a meat thermometer into joints of roasts, ham, or whole chickens to ensure they are cooked to the desired temperature.

Authentic stoneware is fired at high temperatures therefore the ceramic pot may have minor surface blemishes, the glass lid may rock slightly due to these imperfection. Low heat cooking does not produce steam so there will be little heat loss. Due to normal wear and tear through the products life, the outer surface may start appearing “crazed”.

Do not put the ceramic pot or glass lid in an oven, freezer, microwave or on a gas/electrical hob.

Do not subject the ceramic pot to sudden changes in temperature. Adding cold water to a very hot pot could cause it to crack.

Do not allow the pot to stand in water for a long time (You can leave water in the pot to soak).

There is an area on the base of the ceramic pot that has to remain unglazed for manufacturing purposes. This unglazed area is porous, therefore will soak up water, this should be avoided.

Page 7: IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS · 1. Trim the fat from the meat and cut to sizable chunks and precook on a skillet until browned. 2. Place vegetable stock, uncooked brown rice, curry powder

DO NOT SWITCH THE COOKER ON WHEN THE CERAMIC POT IS EMPTY OR OUT OF THE BASE.

Cleaning and Maintenance.

Always ensure the slow cooker is unplugged before storing away or cleaning. Ensure the slow cooker has cooled completely before cleaning.

The ceramic inner pot and glass lid are not dishwasher safe and should be cleaned by hand with warm soapy water.

The base of the slow cooker can be wiped with a damp cloth and dried. DO NOT use abrasive cleaning materials or scouring pads to clean any part of the slow cooker as this will damage the surface.

Do not submerge the base unit in water or any other liquid.

Electrical Connections

This appliance is fitted with a fused three-pin plug to BS 1363. If the plug has to be removed, it should be cut off and carefully disposed of immediately. To avoid a possible shock hazard, do not insert the discarded plug into a mains socket.

Fitting a new plug

The mains lead must be connected as shown below. The wires are coloured with the following code - Brown wire = Live (L), Blue wire = Neutral (N), Green & Yellow = Earth (E).

The Blue wire must be connected to the terminal marked N or coloured Black.

The Brown wire must be connected to the terminal marked L or coloured Red.

The Green & Yellow wire must be connected to the terminal marked E or coloured Green.

Connect Green & Yellow to Earth (E)

Connect Brown to Live (L)

mains lead is securely held by

the cable clamp

Page 8: IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS · 1. Trim the fat from the meat and cut to sizable chunks and precook on a skillet until browned. 2. Place vegetable stock, uncooked brown rice, curry powder

Check that there are no cut or stray strands of wire inside the plug.

Use a 3 Amp BS 1362 fuse, only use BSI or ASTA approved fuses.

If you are in any way unsure which plug or fuse to use, always refer to a qualified electrician.

After replacing or changing a fuse on a moulded plug, the cover must be refitted to the plug; the appliance must not be used without a fuse cover.
