Ocean water serve as a source of food andvaluable minerals. Its is helpful to a vast highway for commerceand provide a place for recreation and wastedisposal.Biological products of the Oceans are alsocommercially used. For example pearls takenfrom Oyster are used in jellwery, corals andshells are used as a source of bedding material.

Lakes : are large bodies of inland Water. Lakesholds 20 percent of the worlds fresh surfacewater. Drinking water ,water used for irrigation ,

industry, hydropower etc. comes from freshwaterlakes.Ponds : support the growth of aquatic plants. They are often artificially formed water bodies. They are used for boating ,swimming , fishing etc.Rivers : are large natural streams of flowingwater that empty in oceans ,estuaries ,lakes .

Streams : are smaller water bodies that flow innatural or artificial channels .

Transportation : Most explorers used water bodiesfor travel small boats to large ships use waterbodies to transport goods and people.Industry :Rivers and stream are places where goldcan collect. Placer mining is a method of taking thegold out of stream beds. Other mines use the waterform the rivers to help them drill and to processthe raw ore.

It is the major way of transportation andcommunication of people as well as good.Oceans have deposits of petroleum in anabundant form .Oceans are rich for fishing resources. The majorfish are cod, haddock, hake, herring etc. .

Beach sands are rich in heavy minerals.Oceans are also utilized as for extracting Pearlswhich are in great demand.Natural resources are also obtain from Oceans.

Oceans helps in climate regulation.Water cycle totally depend on Oceans andwater bodies.Oceans provide us with water, nutrients, minerals and waste cycling.Oceans helps to maintain biodiversity and

Oceans contains vast quantities of materials thatserves as major resources for humans. Today, direct extraction of resources in limited to

magnesium, salt, placer good, Tin, Titanium,Diamonds and fresh water.Salt : salt occurs in sea water at a concentrationof about 3% and hence constitutes more then80% of the dissolved chemical elements inoceans. It is mined from deeply buried bedsdeposited when sea water evaporated in anancient environment.

Potassium :Its also occurs in vast quantities.Potassium occur in many thick evaporite sequencesalong with common salt. It is generally too low to

permit direct economic extraction. Magnesium : It is the only metal which is directly

extracted from the sea. It is extracted from ancientocean deposits where the salt is precipitated duringevaporation or formed during digenesis.

Sand and Gravel : The ocean basins constitute theultimate depositional site of sediments eroded fromland and beaches .Beaches and near-shore sedimentsare locally extracted for use in construction.

Manganese Nodules : The deep ocean floor containslarge quantities of nodules. They generally contains

more iron then manganese. No economic way hasbeen develo to harvest the resource. Man anese

Nodules contain metals like Iron, Manganese, Copper,Cobalt and Nickel. Placer Gold, Diamond, Titanium and Tin : Placer

deposits are accumulation of resistant and insolubleminerals that have been eroded from their originallocation s of formation and deposited along rivercourses or at ocean margins. Important of thesedeposits contain gold, tin, diamond and titanium.

Water : Oceans provides a very small portion ofwater used and remains quite expensive relative to

    land basin water resources.

Ocean is fill with plants and fishes. Microscopicplants and animals called plankton are veryimportant as they become food for many other

animals.Fish : More then a billon people around theworld depend on fish as their primary sourceof animal protein. Freshwater and coastalpollution , destruction of man groves that serveas marine nurseries, over fishing ,andunsustainable aqua culture practice areresulting in dramatic decline in fisheries.

PLANTS: Marine ecosystems have a crucial role inregulating climate, as marine plants absorb hugequantities of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and provide food and income for communitieseverywhere.

All things in a ecosystem are interdependent. Theexistence of one species may depend on the health ofanother.

Tourism in the ocean usually is people going outand looking at coral reefs, fish and shipwrecks. Most people are deeply fascinated by reefs, many

cannot understand how they were formed withthe colors they see, because they admire it, theysoon want the reefs protected, wishing that thebeauty of the reef will be there for generations tocome.Governments and businesses have different ideas, trying to get money to support familys and the

I would like to express my special thanks ofgratitude to my teacher, Mam Pooja who gave methe golden opportunity to do this wonderful

Presentation on the topic IMPORTANCE OFOCEANS/WATERBODIES which also helpedme in doing a lot of research and I came to knowabout so many new things.I am making this presentation not only for marksbut to also increase my knowledge.
