Dr. Dennis L. Granberry (’66) was a pre-dental major who was involved in as many campus activities as he could cram into his busy schedule. He was a mem-ber of the tennis team, the band, the chemistry club, the French club, Student Christian Association, the chorus, Wesley Foundation, Inter-national Relations Club and Phi The-ta Kappa. Today, Granber-ry is an orthodon-tist in the Hatties-burg area where he established his practice in 1973. He earned a M.S. in Orthodontics from Georgetown University and complet-ed his dental school training at the Univer-sity of Tennessee at Memphis. He was a captain in the Air Force for two years and has been board certifi ed for over 20 years and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. Dr. Granberry is involved in numerous community and professional organiza-tions and serves as teacher/lecturer at the dental hygienist program at Pearl River Community College. He is a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. He and his wife, Erin, have two sons, Lee and Eric. Dr. Granberry says that Co-Lin more than prepared him for the Ivy League. “I found the teachers that I had at Co-Lin High School and the college to be just as good as those I had elsewhere in college. I worried that I might not be able to make it, but I was just as prepared for dental school as my friends who came from big-ger schools all over the country.”

Venetia “Nish” Ackerman Smith (’83) of Cordova, Tenn., was one of the most popular students on campus. She and her twin brother, Charlie, were known and

liked by the majority of the student body. Smith was a member of the band, Trail-blazers, food service committee, Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges and was selected as Miss Co-Lin. After Co-Lin, Smith graduated from the Associate Degree Nursing program at Southwest Mississippi Community Col-lege. She went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Ala-bama, followed by a master’s degree to become a family nurse practitioner at the University of Memphis. Today Smith works as a board certifi ed family nurse practitioner with The Little Clinic, Inc. in Tennessee. She is a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Memphis Inter-denomina t iona l Faith Associa-tion, Collierville Chamber of Com-merce, Country-wood Neighbor-hood Association and American As-sociation of Nurse Practitioners. She has a daughter, Whitney Claire Smith of Mem-phis, Tenn. Smith says that after an unsuc-cessful stint at a university right out of high school, that making the deci-sion to begin again at Co-Lin turned out to be the most important decision she ever made. “I believe today as I did 30+ years ago. Co-Lin is “The Place to Be” anything you dream to be… I am and will always be forever grateful.” Dr. Todd Sullivan (’05) was selected to the Co-Lin Hall of Fame, and it is easy to see why. He was a member of numer-ous campus organizations and activities such as Alpha Omega Science Club, Sig-ma Kappa Delta, Phi Beta Lambda, presi-dent’s council, Trailblazers, the Student

Government Association, and Phi Theta Kappa, in which he served as vice presi-dent of service. He was a National Dean’s List scholar, a member of the All Missis-sippi Academic Team, Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges and was selected as a campus favorite. Today, Dr. Sullivan is a resident veteri-narian at Mississippi State University Col-lege of Veteri-nary Medicine. He received a B.S. from Uni-versity of Mis-sissippi Medi-cal Center and a Doctor of Veter-inary Medicine from Missis-sippi State Uni-versity. He is a mem-ber of Pine Lake Church in Starkville, where he is a member of the worship choir and serves as a small group leader and a children’s minis-try leader. He and his wife, Stacie are par-ents to a son, Wade Jackson. Dr. Sullivan says Co-Lin was the per-fect start to his educational career. “I have spent many years as a student, but still think of Co-Lin as my educational home and foundation. “My best memories at Co-Lin are of time spent in Phi Theta Kappa. The many friendships that were formed during PTK, one of which led to meeting my wife, have led to a now successful net-work of Co-Lin graduates. I am so thank-ful for my time at Co-Lin.”

career as a coach and school administrator in Mt. Olive. He returned to Co-Lin in the early 1950s, serving as a social studies teacher and coach for the high school and as an assistant coach for the college from 1951-1955. Waters worked in school administration until 1970, and then went to work with the Mississippi Department of Education. Waters was inducted into the Co-Lin Sports Hall of Fame in 1982.
