A Message from Fr. Rolly… May 17, 2020 Jesus said to his disciples in the gospel reading for the liturgy of the Sixth Sunday of Easter: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” Somewhere in the same gospel passage Jesus also promised: “I will not leave you orphans.”

Perhaps most of us would just focus on his promise about not leaving us orphans. Perhaps we do not remember or maybe we chose not to remember that in order to be assured that Jesus would not leave us orphans, we need to take a deep and serious look at his first statement. To be with Jesus then requires keeping his commandments faithfully. And, keeping his commandments means we truly love him which enables us to attach to him and he to us. The big question then that we need to answer honestly is: How is our relationship with Jesus? Or, maybe the first question to ask is: Do we have a personal relationship with Jesus at all? In this time of trial and testing, these hard questions are necessary in order to put ourselves into the right perspective. When everything is said and done, all these uncertainties, fear of the unknown future, worries of what the future holds for us after this pandemic, will have their proper place in our lives depending on how we are attached to Jesus and He to us. Brothers and sisters in Christ, I pray that you are all in good spirits even in this time of health emergency. As followers of Jesus, we believe that God can still make miracles out of a seeming hopeless situation. God can write straight with crooked lines. Let us hang on to him faithfully not only during this time of challenges in our life of faith but all throughout our very lives. May God continue to bless us and keep us safe. May the Immaculate Heart of Mary accompany us and help us lift our prayers to Him who is our loving and faithful God who will never leave us orphans.

Father Tino’s Corner... Sexto domingo de Cuaresma

In today's reading, Jesus offers encouragement to his disciples, who will soon see him crucified. He assures them that although he will leave them, he will not abandon them. Instead, he will send them to the Advocate, the Holy Spirit,

through whom the disciples will continue to live in union with Jesus. Jesus uses the term Advocate to describe the Holy Spirit, whom the disciples will receive. Another word used to describe the Holy Spirit is Paraclete, a legal term meaning "one who offers defense for another." Note that Jesus says he will send

"another attorney." Jesus himself is the first lawyer, interceding for his disciples with the Father. In today's reading, Jesus contrasts his impending departure with the permanence of the gift of the Holy Ghost. Jesus will depart to return to the Father, but the Holy Spirit will remain with the disciples.

Through the gift of the Holy Spirit, the disciples will come to know and appreciate the unity of the Son and the Father. They will also understand that they also participate in the communion between the Father and the Son. Today's reading is an example of the contrast that John's Gospel presents between the

community of disciples, to whom God will reveal Himself, and the unbelieving world, who will remain in darkness. The unbelieving world cannot accept the "Spirit of truth", whom the disciples will receive. Only through the Spirit will the revelation and love of God be known. In this passage, we learn about the Trinity (the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit:

All are One, but each has His specific role in God's Plan of Salvation. The "Unity" of the Trinity is held together by the divine and perfect spiritual love that they share and want to share with us. This is the love that Philip shared with the Samaritans. This is the love that made the psalmist sing the praises of God. And this is the love that he made to Saint Peter so brave and brave after the Holy Spirit descended on him on the first Sunday of Pentecost.

Does the love of God reign in your heart? If not, pray to the Holy Spirit to help you find this love, joy and peace.

from cyberbullying Cyberbullying can

happen at any time, on any online

platform. It can take many

forms – cruel direct messages, threatening

emails, mean texts, shared photos, and

more. Victims of cyber-bullying often

suffer from anxiety and depression, and their

self-esteem can be diminished. They may

be reluctant to talk about bullying, so

parents need to be on top of all their children’s online activities. Asking questions and getting

THE REASON FOR OUR HOPE

“What is the reason for your hope?”

Imagine somebody coming up to you

and asking you that question. Not

“What are you hoping for?” or

“What are you hoping to do?” No,

this isn’t about our desires for

possessions or aspirations for life,

it’s “Why do you hope?” Peter today

tells us that we ought to be ready to

give an answer to this question.

Truth be told, few of us spend much

time thinking about why we hope.

Luckily, the scriptures today give us

our answers. We hope because

Christ suffered for us, in order that

we might come to God. We hope

because we know that, in the Spirit,

God grants us another Advocate

through Christ to remain with us

always. No matter what we might

hope for, whatever we might hope to

do, we must always first know and

proclaim the reason for our hope:

the presence of God in Christ, with

SAINT RITA OF CASCIA

(1381-1457)

Feast Day: May 22 `

If you’re ever in Philadelphia on

May 22, forget parking anywhere

near Saint Rita’s shrine. Cars line streets and fill medians as throngs

pack a candlelight vigil and six

Masses, honoring this patroness of lost causes, hopeless situations,

and—as her statue in countless

churches built by twentieth-century immigrants testifies—

difficult marriages, troubled

homes, and alienated children. Wise people warn, be careful

what you pray for. “Divine

Savior,” Rita prayed, “let me suffer like you!” Obedient to

parents who refused her wish to

become a nun, Rita married a man who returned her devotion

with twenty years of abuse.

When enemies murdered him, Rita’s two sons swore revenge.

Paintings depict her pointing the

angry boys toward Christ crucified, whom she begged to

restrain them. Within the year,

both sons died. Alone now, Rita went to the convent but was

refused. The nuns feared

violence, since one of them was related to the murderer.

Rita arranged peace between

the families, made vows, and became much sought

after as a counselor and

Mensaje de nuestro parroco, Fr. Rolly…

17 de mayo de 2020 Jesús dijo a sus discípulos en el evangelio para la liturgia del sexto domingo de Pascua: "Si me amas, guardarás mis mandamientos". En algún lugar del mismo pasaje del evangelio, Jesús también prometió: "No los dejaré huérfanos".

Quizás la mayoría de nosotros nos concentraríamos en su promesa de no dejarnos huérfanos. Tal vez no lo recordamos o tal vez elegimos no recordar que para asegurarnos de que Jesús no nos dejaría huérfanos, tenemos que echar un vistazo profundo y serio a su primera declaración. Estar con Jesús requiere guardar fielmente sus mandamientos. Y, guardar sus mandamientos significa que lo amamos realmente, lo que nos permite unirnos a él y él a nosotros. La gran pregunta que debemos responder honestamente es: ¿Cómo es nuestra relación con Jesús? O tal vez la primera pregunta es: ¿Tenemos alguna relación personal con Jesús? En este tiempo de prueba, estas preguntas difíciles son necesarias para ponernos en la perspectiva correcta. Cuando todo esté dicho y hecho, todas estas incertidumbres, el miedo al futuro desconocido, las preocupaciones de lo que nos depara el futuro después de esta pandemia, tendrán su lugar apropiado en nuestras vidas dependiendo de cómo nos apeguemos a Jesús y a Él a nosotros. Hermanos y hermanas en Cristo, oro para que todos estén de buen humor, incluso en este momento de emergencia de salud. Como seguidores de Jesús, creemos que Dios aún puede hacer milagros a partir de una situación aparentemente desesperada. Dios puede escribir en línea recta con líneas torcidas. Permítanos aferrarnos a él fielmente no solo durante este tiempo de desafíos en nuestra vida de fe sino a lo largo de nuestras vidas. Que Dios continúe bendiciéndonos y nos mantenga a salvo. Que el Inmaculado Corazón de María nos acompañe y nos ayude a elevar nuestras oraciones a Aquel que es nuestro Dios amoroso y fiel que nunca nos dejará huérfanos.

Mensaje de Padre Tino... Sexto domingo de Pascua En la lectura de hoy, Jesús ofrece aliento a sus discípulos, quienes pronto lo verán crucificado. Les asegura que aunque los dejará, no los abandonará. En cambio, les enviará al Abogado, el Espíritu Santo, a través del cual los discípulos continuarán viviendo en unión con Jesús. Jesús usa el término Abogado para describir al Espíritu Santo, a quien los discípulos recibirán. Otra palabra utilizada para describir al Espíritu Santo es Paraclete, un término legal que significa "uno que ofrece defensa por otro". Tenga en cuenta que Jesús dice que enviará "otro abogado". Jesús mismo es el primer abogado, intercediendo por sus discípulos con el Padre. En la lectura de hoy, Jesús contrasta su inminente partida con la permanencia del don del Espíritu Santo. Jesús partirá para regresar al Padre, pero el Espíritu Santo permanecerá con los discípulos. A través del don del Espíritu Santo, los discípulos llegarán a conocer y apreciar la unidad del Hijo y el Padre. También entenderán que ellos también participan en la comunión entre el Padre y el Hijo. La lectura de hoy es un ejemplo del contraste que presenta el Evangelio de Juan entre la comunidad de discípulos, a quienes Dios se revelará, y el mundo incrédulo, que permane-cerá en la oscuridad. El mundo incrédulo no puede aceptar el "Espíritu de verdad", a quien los discípulos recibirán. Solo a través del Espíritu se conocerá la revelación y el amor de Dios. En este pasaje, aprendemos acerca de la Trinidad (el Padre, el Hijo y el Espíritu Santo: Todos son Uno, pero cada uno tiene Su papel específico en el Plan de Salvación de Dios. La "Unidad" de la Trinidad se mantiene unida por lo divino y perfecto amor espiritual que ellos comparten y quieren compartir con nosotros. Este es el amor que Felipe compartió con los samaritanos. Este es el amor que hizo que el salmista cantara las alabanzas de Dios. Y este es el amor que hizo a San Pedro tan valiente y valiente después de que el Espíritu Santo descendió sobre él el primer domingo de Pentecostés. ¿El amor de Dios reina en tu corazón? Si no, reza al Espíritu Santo para que te ayude a encontrar este amor, alegría y paz.

SAN CRISTÓBAL MAGALLANES

Y COMPAÑEROS (año 1915-1937)

Uno de los capítulos más gloriosos de la historia de la Iglesia en México se escribió

durante la persecución religiosa conocida como La

Cristiada (1926-1929). El entonces Presidente de

México decretó la suspensión de culto y toda celebración

litúrgica se convirtió en algo ilegal, en una resistencia y

desobediencia a una Constitución anticatólica.

El pueblo se levantó en armas y defendió su derecho. Más de 20 sacerdotes y tres laicos fueron canonizados por sufrir heroicamente el

martirio y no tomar las armas. Son increíbles los tormentos que muchos

sufrieron, pero más increíble aun es la fidelidad

que mantuvieron hacia Dios. Aunque san Cristóbal

Magallanes encabeza la fiesta litúrgica de hoy, el mártir cristero más conocido entre ellos es

Santo Toribio Romo a quien nuestro pueblo lo ha

identificado como el patrono de los indocumentados.

De él se dice que encontró a un indocumentado en Tijuana y que lo ayudó a

pasar a Los Ángeles y como gratitud le pidió que fuera a

visitarlo a Santa Ana de Guadalupe, Jalisco. Al pagar el favor, le contaron la historia

RAZÓN DE NUESTRA

ESPERANZA

“¿Cuál es la razón de tu

esperanza?”. Imagina que

alguien se te acerca y te

hace esa pregunta. No

“¿qué es lo que esperas?”

o ¿qué esperas hacer?”.

No; no se trata de los deseos

de poseer cosas o de

aspiraciones en la vida,

sino “¿por qué tienes

esperanza?”. Hoy Pedro

nos dice que debemos

estar dispuestos a

responder esta pregunta.

A decir verdad, pocos son

los que se dedican a pensar

por qué tenemos esperanza.

Por suerte, las Escrituras

de hoy nos ofrecen la

respuesta. Esperamos

porque Cristo sufrió por

nosotros, a fin de que

podamos venir a Dios.

Esperamos porque sabemos

que, en el Espíritu, Dios

nos concede otro Defensor

en Cristo que permanecerá

con nosotros por siempre.

Sin importar lo que

podamos esperar, o lo que

esperamos poder hacer,

siempre debemos saber y

proclamar la razón de

nuestra esperanza: la

presencia de Dios en Cristo

con nosotros por el poder
