INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES (SHOCK):
By the end of the course, the intensive care candidate will be able to:
Knowledge (K):
K.1 Define shock, categorize it based upon type, explain the etiology and
pathophysiology of each type of shock
K.2 Summarize the clinical presentation and hemodynamic parameters
associated with each type of shock using clinical terms, such as heart rate,
respiratory rate, and blood pressure and filling pressures.
K.3 Recognize hemorrhagic shock and correlate a patient's acute clinical
signs with the degree of volume deficit.
K.4 Explain the importance of early identification and control of the
source of hemorrhage in trauma patients.
K.5 Compare and contrast the clinical presentation of patients with
various classifications of hemorrhage .
K.6 Describe the initial management of hemorrhagic shock and ongoing
evaluation of fluid resuscitation and organ perfusion.

K.7 Recognize the physiologic responses to resuscitations in order to
continually reassess the patient's response and avoid complications.
K.8 Explain the role of blood replacement in the management of shock.
K.9 Describe the special considerations in the diagnosis and treatment of
shock .
Practical skills (PS):
By the end of the program the candidate should be able to:
PS .1 Recognize the shock state
PS. 2 Identify the causes of shock state
PS.3 Participate in trauma resuscitations
PS.4 Identify surface markings and demonstrate the techniques of
vascular access
PS.5 Estimate volume requirements for hemorrhage; and institute
replacement therapy.
PS.6 Use adjunctes in the assessment and management of the shock state
including X-rays , CT , Sonography , diagnostic peritoneal lavange
