When he nibbled on a grain Dreaming sweet sugar, He coughed and almost choked on it – Its taste, he could not �igure.Then he slid into a panOf slippery, sloppery oil,But managed to crawl out of itBefore it began to boil. The pitter-patter of mustard Made his heart skip a beat, He jumped and ran a mile At the cooker’s shrill tweet.He very nearly got crushedAlong with pungent pepper,Just missed being cut and servedAs salad for their supper.

‘Dear bee, will you be my friend and play with me?’‘Bzzz, I will!’ answered the bee.ZZZIP! She flew off the leaf and sat on Flippy’s nose. But the next moment… ‘OW!’ screamed Flippy in pain as the bee stung him. Startled by his shout, the bee quickly flew back to the water-lily. Flippy rubbed his nose and said ruefully, ‘Sorry, bee, but I’m really looking for a friend who doesn’t bite me!’ As he was hopping on to the bank, he heard a soft and soothing sound. ‘Hisssss…sss!’ Now, who could that be? wondered Flippy. As he looked around, his eyes fell on someone he had never seen before. �e newcomer had a long, green body – the longest body Flippy had ever seen! He was smiling, and the smile stretched all over his looooong face. He looked really friendly. ‘Hello! I haven’t seen you around before. What’s your name?’ asked Flippy. ‘I’m Sssss…Sly,’ came the answer. ‘I’m new here. In fact, I just came today!’ Flippy said eagerly, ‘I’m Flippy, and I live here. Will you be my friend and play with me?’ ‘Yesssss…of courssssse! It would be a real pleassssure!’ answered Sly smiling. ‘Come on, let’s play. Afterwardsss… you musssst come to dinner with me!’ His smile broadened, and his mouth opened in a wide grin.Flippy was very happy. At last, he had found a friend! He started hopping towards Sly.

THUD! Out of nowhere, a big stone came flying and crashed right into Sly’s open mouth.Startled, Flippy spun around. Toto, the turtle was standing behind him.‘Move, Flippy!’ shrieked Toto. ‘�at’s a snake! Do you know what he intends to have for dinner? You silly fellow!’‘What?!’ cried Flippy in disbelief. He turned around, to see Sly moving swiftly towards him. His friendly smile had vanished, and he looked furious! ‘Quick! Into the water, before he catches you!’ hissed Toto. He grabbed Flippy, and pushed him into the water. He then dived in himself Together, they swam away to safety. From the bank, Sly angrily watched his dinner vanishing! Flippy and Toto went on swimming until they reached the other bank and climbed on to a rock. For a few moments, both lay on the rock, too tired to speak. At last, Toto asked quietly, ‘So, Flippy, what have you decided? Are you still leaving the pond?’Flippy turned to look at the turtle who had saved his life.‘No, Toto,’ he answered. ‘I just found out that I don’t need to go away to find a friend. I have you, right here!’And the two new-found friends smiled happily at each other.
