Why choose this course?This is a studio practice based coursethat incorporates undergraduate andpostgraduate study so you’ll graduatewith a masters degree. If you have apassion for illustration, this course willprepare you for your career in this field.

About the courseThis four year course integratesundergraduate and postgraduate study,enabling you to be committed from theearly stages as a deep thinker, risk takerand innovative practitioner in illustration.

What you’ll coverVisual narrative is at the heart of mostillustration, which is often used to helpinterpret or explain complex or difficultissues and ideas. Throughout the courseyou will meet innovative speakers fromthe illustration industry.

How you’ll learnTeaching is delivered mainly throughstudio based and experiential learningusing project briefs. This is mixed withtutorials, lectures, seminars, visitingspeakers and visits to galleries andexhibitions.

You’ll develop a Personal DevelopmentPlan, developing yourself as a well-rounded individual through continuousreflection on your studies, progress andfuture career planning.

Your careerAs a graduate you could work as afreelance illustrator in areas such aschildren's and adult publishing,magazines, graphic novels, comics,printmaking, information and educationdesign, as well as web design,newspapers and packaging.

You could also gain employment in thebroader field of the creative industriesincluding graphic design, computergames, animation or advertising. Some ofour graduates have also moved on toteaching or continue on to further orhigher postgraduate study.

Additional informationWe actively encourage students toparticipate in national and internationalillustration competitions and throughoutthe course you’ll take part in a number oflive briefs to develop your skills andknowledge for your future career. We arealso members of the Association ofIllustrators (AOI) and Design and ArtDirection (D&AD).

You’ll also have the opportunity to exhibityour final year work as part of our degreeshow. This creative festival is a highprofile event in the city’s arts calendar,and allows you to make vital industrycontacts.

Entry requirements: Academic – 260 UCAS tariff points, ofwhich at least 220 must be from yourInternational Baccalaureate or equivalentqualification.
