',."The Woodlawn A.M.E. Church family rejoicesin the life
.;~ '.' .,~" and legacy of our beloved member and friend, Mrs. Havannah
-. King, tmom God has blessed to live five score years and four.
According to Psalm 90, the life span designated by God i~ three
Iscore years and ten and due to strength four score years. H~
He has blessed His servant Havannah Kingl ~
her home to be with Him. Therefore, we weep not, neither do
we mourn, but we celebrate in this 'beautiful homegoing
celebration. Early Friday morning, June~27th, she shook off
this earthly tabernacle that had aged with pain, suffering
and frustrationand put on ~~ortality. She was taken on
.
the ~rlngs of God to her heavenly home in glory where she
will be waiting for us.
Yes, we rejoice in the life of ~1rs. Havannah King, and
we wonder what can be attributed to her longevity. Her
physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual outlook on life
are those attributes that one can admire.
Hrs. KLYlgknew the t her body i-ras the temple of theHolySpirit
who resided in her that she had received from God. Therefore, she
glorified God ~Qth her body. She took care of it and nu=tured it.
She was a connoisseur of food and was gifted in the culihary arts.
She cooked good food; therefore she ate good food that was healthful
for her bodyo She disliked bland foods that were not pleasing to the
palate. She loved chicken wings and sweet potato pie. She made the
best sweet potato pies that melted in your moutho
In addition;to eating properly, 11rs. King get plenty of sleep.
In the nursing home, she skipped the five o'clock meal in order to
bed d~m for a good night's slumber.
One may have called Mrs. King, hygip.nic Annie because she detested
dirt ~nd filthL~ess. She kept her body clean as well as her clothes.
In the nursing home, she would wash her under garments and put them
on the heating vent. 1Vhen she was chastised abo~t doing so, she
put them on a clothes line that she had hidden behinp her bed.
Dresser, par excellenc~, Mrs. King came to church bedecked in
hat, gloves, a fine suit or a beauti~ul dress and promenaded to her.
aisle seat approximately four rows from the front orlthe north side
of the sanctuary.
Emotionally, Hrs. King was calm. She told the truth. If she;
didn't like something, she let ~rouknow and did not have any quaL~s
about it. She was indeed a WCWAn with the right attitude.
Comical as she cou~d be, PITS. King could have been a night club
entertainer, for s}le was another Moms Mabley. Shewas so wittyand
and funny and did not even know it. She was the life of any setting
and would have you in stitches with laughter.
Her emotional ~utlook was an asset to her mental capacity. She
was lucid as a centenarian and could name all of her siblings. She
Was very independent and looked out for herself. She loved her some
money. On April 25th, her last birthday, she opened her cards and
asked, II~-fuere is the money?", ~trs. King WaS a card whom everyone loved.
The main attribute that kept Mrs. King going was her being a
child of the King. She was bo~ again and set apart to do God's will.
She loved Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. She COI!l:."'11u:o.icated 't,.ith the
Lord daily ~~d had daily devotions with her church friends, ~~s. Leola
TUl~ipseed and Mrs. Miriam Keathings.
As a servant of the Lord, Mrs. King ?Torked "t-.-rith the Sunshine Circle
and the Matron's Club. She even sang in the choir, but gave that up
becaftse it demanded toomuch practice.
We ~dll miss !4rs. King, but she has left a l~gacy of a full and
spiritual life. Her invocation to God on Sunday, May 25th WaS awesome
and pOlJ'erful. There was shouting and praising in her room.
His child whose body was decaying, but her inner spirit which was
being renewed longed to be at rp.st and at peace vrlth Him.
Hal1elujah~ niece Ann Parker, first COUS1n Ruth Luster, cousins
Ben ~~d Etta Ingram, other family members, good friend Clara Chiles,
and. the Woodlawn fa!nily. TNhat joy is filling her spirit as she
celebrates with the saints on high!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah~ Thank ,"ou, Lord for the life and legacy,
