Il GiulioneIl Giulione is a beautifully restored traditional property. Once the hunting lodge of the Cecchani family, who claim their heritage from the lords of Proceno, it now provides superb accommodation for 10/12 guests. The lodge features a spacious ground floor living, dining and kitchen area with upstairs providing 3 suites of bedrooms that are quite independent and complete with own bathrooms. The refurbishment has been lovingly overseen by Signora Cecilia Cecchani Bisoni, with care taken to ensure total privacy and maximum comfort. The Lodge is tastefully furnished, family antiques and beautifully restored furniture add to the ambience of the setting. All floors are of handmade terracotta tiles.

The lodge sits on 2 hectares of land and enjoys magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. The partially fenced grounds offer a natural environment with a 6x15 metre swimming pool and a covered car park within easy access of the house. At 2.5 kms away there is a hamlet where basic supplies are available, there is also a small restaurant. San Casciano dei Bagni with all shops and facilities is at 10kms, the bustling town of Acquapendente is only 15kms away with the medieval village of Proceno at 17kms.

The main entrance is from the side of the Lodge into a hall featuring an ancient wood burning oven, a vaulted ceiling which resembles the prow of a boat and a stone staircase to the upper level (piano 1). On the right of the hall a door leads into ‘Il Carlino’, a small apartment that can be used independently or in conjunction with the rest of the house. Il Carlino features a studio with double sofa bed, desk and closet, bathroom and small kitchen with door leading to the garden. On the left of the hall a door leads into the spacious 700sqm. living and dining area. The living/dining space (soggiorno/sala di pranzo) comprises a huge fireplace, 3 sofas (one of which is a double sofa bed), an arm chair, 2 large sideboards, a dining table and decorative frieze in pietra santa. The space is comfortable, light and airy with four windows and a glass paned door that opens onto the covered porch (portico) where one finds an outdoor eating area (la loggia) with fireplace and barbecue.

A doorway leads from the dining area into a hall that provides access to a bathroom with shower (wheelchair access) and the kitchen (la cucina). Through an open arch the kitchen opens onto a small breakfast nook. The kitchen is fully equipped with gas range, electric oven, microwave oven, dishwasher and fridge with freezer. A door from the kitchen leads to the garden.

Il GiulioneReturning to the entrance hall, a flight of stone stairs leads to the first floor landing which provides access to 3 independent areas. At the top of the stairs to the left is ‘Alba’, which comprises Camera Ruggine (double), with private hallway access to Camera Lette (study with 2 singles – ideal for children) and bathroom. In the study is a ceramic sink, mini-bar and microwave oven. A door in the study takes you back to the first floor landing. From the landing to the right is ‘Mezzogiorno’ - a hallway leads into a living room (soggiorno 1) which is beautifully furnished and features an open-hearth fireplace. A mini-bar, water-boiler, microwave oven and sink provides limited catering to this space. To the left of the living space is Camera Rosa (double) which features an en-suite bathroom split between two levels – on the upper level a washbasin and bathtub, on the lower level a walk-in robe, washbasin and toilet. To the right of the living space is Camera Bleu a spacious twin bedded room that can be made-up as a double on request. Camera Bleu has an en-suite bathroom with shower stall. On the far end of the landing is ‘Tramonto’ - a door opens onto Camera Verde (double) complete with en-suite bathroom with bathtub. Camera Verde also offers a mini-bar and other self-catering appliances.

The swimming pool is found a short distance from the lodge situated on a small hill providing outstanding views. A private changing area and catering bench is located next to the pool. Pool-side furnishings are provided.

In addition to being impeccably furnished the Lodge has mosquito screens on all windows, there is a hair-dryer in each bathroom, 4 combination safes are available and there is a portable telephone (cards can be purchased from the owner). The lodge is centrally heated (gas) which is payable on consumption during the heating season together with firewood. A maid cleans the Lodge 3 times a week, this is at an additional charge of 80 Euros.

Guest can enjoy catered breakfasts and dinners, on request at an additional charge or dine at the Castello di Proceno. The Castello houses two eating establishments – the traditional enoteca (wine-bar) or pool-side restaurant where Signora Cecilia Cecchini Bisoni serves a mix of Italian and international dishes. Reservations required.
