““Deeper Learning” is an umbrella term for the skills, understandings, and mindsets students must possess to succeed in today’s jobs and civic life.
“At its heart, Deeper Learning is defined by a set of competencies students must master to develop a keen understanding of academic content and apply their skills to challenges in the classroom, on the job, and in everyday life.

Fundamental Question...What do you believe is the most important skillset that public schools can provide students to prepare for their futures, and does that philosophy align with what industry and higher education is seeking in public school graduates?
Principals as Instructional Leaders

What is the chasm you are trying to cross? Why is it vital to your vision for learning in your local context?
Now what?
When I was a first-year teacher in the South Bronx, I almost left the teaching profession. Like
many, I was new; I was hopeful and wanted to make a difference. But, I still didn’t know how yet.
Great teachers aren’t born – they are nurtured and developed. Great teachers have a mentor that
helps them grow.
The strongest model for schools is one in which principals are creative, innovative instructional
leaders. They find opportunities for their teachers to lead. They support teachers in their growth
and create a safe space for adults to take risks in their learning. As we look at what builds a great
school, we need to look at the principal. Who is at the helm? What vision have they set for their
communities? How have they developed an environment that fosters learning and creativity?
Our kids need great teachers. And our teachers need great leaders.
One can’t exist without the other. Alicia Perez-Katz @bcchs_principal
What is one innovative way you could utilize digital content with your team/department/campus?
Now what?
“Salvation for our educational ills…will have to come from within an educational community willing to say we have met the enemy and it is us.--Seymour Sarason
“There’s an assumption that schools are for students’ learning. Well, why aren’t they just as much for teachers’ learning?--Seymour Sarason
“In my first year, just getting kids to do what I said was a triumph. A few years later, having them do well on standardized assessments was a triumph. Now I’m more focused on helping them become happier, better people, and someday being able to live the lives they dream for themselves. That ceiling keeps rising toward the sky. @JustinMinkel
