Good News Reflection

Aprovechar al máximo las oportunidades divinas

Después que Jesús toca nuestras vidas - responde una oración, nos da una sanación, da un conocimiento que cambia nuestra vida, o hace cualquier otro tipo de diferencia - ¿qué hacemos a continuación? Nuestra vida ha sido cambiada por la gracia divina. ¿Aprovechamos lo máximo de esta nueva oportunidad?

Dios nunca nos fuerza a tomar nuevas direcciones o a seguir ciertos caminos, ni siquiera si hemos hecho un trato con Él, del tipo: "Señor, si me sanas, iré a Misa todos los días."

Jesús nos dice a nosotros lo que le dijo a Bartimeo, el hombre que sanó en la lectura del Evangelio de este domingo: "Sigue tu camino; tu fe te ha salvado." ¿Ir a dónde?

Algunas veces, sus instrucciones son un poco más informativas que eso. Cuando cura a alguien del pecado, agrega: "Ve y no peques más". Okey, pero ¿ir a dónde?

Cada paso que damos es importante. Donde vamos o lo que hacemos hace una diferencia que tiene un efecto en el futuro, con ramificaciones (bendiciones y/o aflicciones) que son imposibles de predecir para nosotros. Jesús no está minimizando su importancia. Al contrario, lo que sigue a continuación es tan importante que quiere que tengamos total control sobre ello.

Jesús le dijo a Bartimeo: "Sigue tu camino." Y ¿qué hizo Bartimeo con esa libertad? "Lo siguió a Él por el camino." Optó por la dirección mejor posible. Su vida cambió dramáticamente, no sólo porque había sido ciego y ahora tenía buena vista, sino porque quería aprender de Jesús y ser uno de sus seguidores.

¿Cuántas veces hemos vuelto a nuestros viejos y familiares caminos, después de un encuentro con Cristo? Si seguirlo significa tomar una nueva dirección, involucrarse en un nuevo ministerio o cambiar de carrera o amigos, con demasiada frecuencia volvemos a instalarnos en nuestras viejas rutinas. Son difíciles de abandonar nuestras zonas de confort. Pero, seguir a Jesús, es una aventura que cambia nuestras vidas, si somos sinceros con nuestra fe.

Seguir a Jesús y aprender de Él debería ser nuestra máxima prioridad. Cada encuentro con Cristo debería transformarnos - incluso en Misa, cuando nos reunimos con Él en la Eucaristía.

Preguntas para la Reflexión Personal: Piensa en la última vez que Jesús respondió a tu necesidad de ayuda. ¿Qué cambió después? ¿Cuánto duró ese cambio?

Making the most of divine opportunities After Jesus touches our lives -- answers a prayer, gives us a healing, provides a life-changing insight, or makes any other kind of difference -- what do we do next? Our life has been changed by divine grace. Do we make the most of this new opportunity?

God never forces us to take a new direction or follow a certain path, not even if we've made a bargain with him, such as: "Lord, if you heal me, I will go to Mass every day."

Jesus says to us what he said to Bartimaeus, the man he healed in this Sunday's Gospel reading: "Go your way; your faith has saved you." Go where?

Sometimes his instructions are a little more informative than that. When he cures someone from sin, he adds: "Go and sin no more". Okay, but go where?

Every step we take is important. Where we go and what we do next makes a difference that ripples off into the future with ramifications (blessings and/or woes) that are impossible for us to predict. Jesus isn't down-playing the significance of this. Rather, what happens next is so important that he wants us to have full control over it.

Jesus told Bartimaeus "Go your way." And what did Bartimaeus do with that freedom? He "followed him on the way." He opted for the best possible direction. His life changed dramatically, not only because he had been blind and now he had good eyesight, but because he wanted to learn from Jesus and become one of his followers.

How many times have we returned to an old familiar path after an encounter with Christ? If following him means taking a new direction, getting involved in a new ministry, or changing careers or friends, we too often settle back into old routines. Comfort zones are hard to leave. But following Jesus is a life-changing adventure if we're sincere about our faith. Following Jesus and learning from him should be our highest priority. Every encounter with Christ should change us -- even at Mass when we reunite ourselves to him in the Eucharist.

Questions for Personal Reflection: Think of the last time Jesus responded to your need for help. What changed afterward? How long did the change last?

In our Catholic tradition, November is the month to offer prayers and light candles for those who have died. We believe in the communion of saints, the communion of the living and the dead. These stand as a sign of mystery. We remember the dead in the promise of life and the holiness of God to which we are called. These have handed on the Faith to us. Blessed by God in His angels and in His saints.

On November 3 & 4 at all the Masses, we will light candles for parishioners who have died within the past year. This takes place at the time of the Prayers of the Faithful. A scroll with the names will hang in the Gathering Area. We invite you to bring photos of your deceased loved ones on November 1 to place on the Remembrance Table. There is also a Remembrance Book to write the names of those who have died.

All Souls Envelopes are available in the Gathering Area of the church. Envelopes may be placed into the collection basket.

En nuestra tradición católica, noviembre es el mes para ofrecer oraciones y encender velas para los que han muerto. Creemos en la comunión de los santos, la comunión de los vivos y los muertos. Estos son un signo de misterio. Recordamos a los muertos en la promesa de vida y la santidad de Dios a la que somos llamados. Estos nos han transmitido la Fe. Bendecido por Dios en sus ángeles y en sus santos.

But, if you focus on the positive, not the negative, focus on your blessings instead of your hardships, miracles will seem common and you will see God’s active presence in your daily life.
