    1. Introduction

    Perfectalignmentofmachineryshaftsiscrucialtopreventprematurebearingfailure,shaftfatigue,sealingproblemsandvibrations.Itfurtherreducestheriskofover-heatingandexcessiveenergyconsumption.TheSKFShaftAlignmentToolTKSA40offersaneasyandaccuratewayofadjustingtwounitsofrotatingmachinerysothattheshaftsoftheunitsareinastraightline.

    1.1 Principle of operation

    TheTKSA40systemusestwomeasuringunitsbothprovidedwithalaserdiodeandapositioningdetector.Astheshaftsarerotatedthrough180anyparallelmisalignmentorangularmisalignmentcausesthetwolaserlinestodeflectfromtheirinitialrelativeposition.

    Themeasurementsfromthetwopositioningdetectorsautomaticallyenterthelogiccircuitryinsidethedisplayunit,whichcalculatesthemisalignmentoftheshaftsandadvisesoncorrectivealignmentsofthemachinefeet.

    Afterastraightforwardmeasuringprocedure,thetoolimmediatelydisplaysthemisalignmentoftheshaftsandthenecessarycorrectiveadjustmentsofthefeetofthemachine.Sincethecalculationsaredoneinrealtimetheprogressofthealignmentcanbefollowedlive.

    1.2 Machine configuration

    DuringthealignmentprocedurewewillrefertothepartofthemachinerywhichwillbeadjustedastheMovablemachine.TheotherpartwewillrefertoastheStationarymachine.

    1.3 Measuring positions

    TodefinethevariousmeasuringpositionsduringthealignmentprocedureweusetheanalogyofaclockasviewedfrombehindtheMovablemachine.Thepositionwiththemeasuringunitsinanuprightpositionisdefinedas12oclockwhile90leftorrightisdefinedas9and3oclock.
