DARTS offers children the opportunity to spend five of their summer days totally immersed in the arts, engaged in intensive workshops and touring various cultural venues throughout the Berkshires. DARTS serves 400 students each summer during eight one- week sessions from various communities. The DARTS philosophy is founded on fostering respect for and interest in each person’s eth- nicity, interests, talents, and individuality. DARTS strives to provide an environment in which students are exposed to the arts and to people from a wide range of backgrounds. Students are selected by Community Coordinators in participating schools and communities. If your child does not live in a participating community or attend a participating school, s/ he may be able to attend DARTS as an alternate. Please fill out the attached alternate registra- tion forms and make sure to list the weeks your child is available to attend DARTS. If an open- ing becomes available, the Boston Symphony will contact you. Sometimes, a space opens up on short notice. The more flexible you are, the more likely your child will have the opportunity to attend DARTS as an alternate. The fee for DARTS alternates is $500. The actual cost of DARTS is over $1350 per student, and this fee is significantly subsidized to make this opportunity more affordable for families. There is a limited amount of financial aid available. AT DARTS AT DARTS AT DARTS Arts Workshops : Arts Workshops are taught by experienced arts educators from throughout Massachusetts. Students may choose from Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, Theater/Drama, Dance or Visual Arts. All Arts Workshops work toward a presentation for their peers on the last night of the session. Students will learn how to use their voice effectively to become strong singers. No previous experience required. We suggest that those interested in the instrumental workshop have at least one year of dedi- cated and continuous study on the instrument, either through a school program or through private instruction . Students can bring their own instrument but it is not required; standard orchestral instruments are provided. Instruments are stored in a locked classroom during a student’s time at DARTS. The BSO Days in the Arts program cancellation/refund policy has been developed based on ourexperiences over recent years. We would like to be able to refund all cancellations, but we cannot.

The cancellation policy allows us to manage this uncertainty.

For cancellationsreceived two weeks or less prior to your child’s scheduled week at DARTS, no refund will be givenregardless of the reason and without exception. When possible, we will work with you to switch yourchild to a later DARTS week during the same summer if space is available.
