If I were to be given an International Scholarship for the 2011-2012 school year, it would be of great
help for me since I am not sure how I would manage to cover all costs without it. Additionally, it would
allow me to attend Kingston and fulfill my dream of obtaining a master in publishing, which would allow
me to professionally enter this field with the wind at my back and accomplish my long term goals.
I know how hard it can be for a person form a poorer country to study in one that is better offfinancially, as I have had the special opportunity to study abroad already. I was a student of Norwegian
at the Faculty of Philology, at the University of Belgrade. As one of the best students of my class
(8.67/10), I was awarded a scholarship to carry out my studies at the University of Agder in Kristiansand
for three months. Without this scholarship I would have not been able to do so, and I would not have
achieved the knowledge and fluency of Norwegian which I possess today, for which I am extremely
grateful.
While studying in Norway under that scholarship, I decided to become involved in world of publishing.
Since I do not have an academic background in this field, I decided to immediately intern at Geopoetika,
one of the largest publishing houses in Serbia. While I did learn many practical skills there, it became all
the more apparent to me that I would need to have a proper academic background in publishing to
actually work in it. Therein, I began to seek masters programs in England as it is Europes best known
publishing capital.
By attending Kingstons Master of Publishing, I foremost hope that I will achieve the proper academic
skills and knowledge that will help me establish a career in the field of publishing. Kingstons program
would especially give me the proper insight I need into the world of electronic publishing to start a
career there and would teach me how the world of publishing functions.
My goal upon finishing this master program is to return to Serbia where I would attempt start my own
modest electronic publishing house, something which has yet to occur here. This publishing housewould specialize in electronic formats, but on a broader European/Global market. The prevalence of E-
readers, modern cell phones and Internet based reading has now made the idea of paperless books
and documents more feasible than ever before. I would like to open a publishing house that would make
Serbian documents and translations thereof, accessible on a global market. This would also involve
creating a modern electronic database of Serbo-Croatian literature, something which does not fully exist
yet.
I know that I would not be able to do all of this without the proper education. Therein, I hope that I will
be awarded this scholarship to help me on the way to achieving these goals.
