Cocooning Ievey 6. From Silkworms to Cocoons Silkworm is a kind of natural insect. It comes out from 2 millimeters egg and then grows into 10 millimeters black worm. People feed them painstakingly by using leaves of natural white mulberryeach silkworm will eat about 30-40g for the whole life. When growing to nearly 40 millimeters, the black silkworms turn into the white cocoon. It need about 22-26 days from hatching to cocoon. The location for raising should be indoor, and full of sunshine, ventilated and sterilized frequently. Person not concerned are not allowed to go. Otherwise the survival rate will be low, and the quality of cocoons will be not up to much. 7. Reeling Ievey 8. Reeling *The process taking silk out of silkworm cocoon called silk reeling. *The original reeling method is to immersed cocoon in boiled water for about 20mins, Hand-drawn silk from the cocoon constantly, then winding it on the silk basket. baskets are the original reeling apparatus. One kilogram cocoon can product about 0.3 kilogram raw silk. The thickness of silk depends on the material needed. 9. Rereeling Ievey 10. The Textile Major Step Ievey drawing Dye silk yarn Hang the warp base Knit/ weave Knitting fringe Straight snip washing shaping 11. Draw Handmade silk carpet pattern mainly contain Chinese pattern and Persian pattern , chinese patterns is more using the ancient Chinese paintings, myths and legends, "biblical" story as a theme, the extensive use of Chinese traditional auspicious patterns, each pattern has a different meaning. Designers design and draw the pattern, and then transformed the patterns into drawings that hand-woven carpet technician can understand:they enlarged the drawing according to the size of the carpet, made blueprints, above is box one after another, each with a different symbol logo, it represents a different colors of yarn, weavers must follow the blueprint to weave. Ievey 12. Dyeing line Dyeing, the former dye is extracted from natural plants, minerals. using the old dyeing technology, the natural silk at nature temperature accept attachment of plant pigments for a long time , accept an excellent protection layer, now it is often combined with the application of chemical synthetic dye to increase the diversity of colors. Ievey 13. Hang the warp The vertical lines wrapped between of the upper and lower beams paralleling to each other , these vertical lines called warp . The odd and the even silk warp was separated by a tabular ledger , Tightening warp forming warp tension, the crossbar which separate the odd warp and even warp called zheng Hanging the wrap in a rectangular frame - machine beams . Wind the warp around the upper and lower horizontal beam one by one according to a fixed distance, warp density determines the texture of the carpet, the more the warp the more dense and clear the pattern, of course, the greater workload. Ievey 14. base Knitter thread a silk yarn across the entire interval of a warp mesh from left to right , this horizontal interspersed up to eight or nine times , This line is called the transverse weft . This simple technique form a basis ,protecting the tie point of the silk yarn which form the blanket later, the foundation called "Kerim" or "foundation" , also the starting point of weaving the ear. Even a narrow foundation can also keep the hand knot from spread. After the formation of one to six inches of the foundation, weaver started the first row of weavers knot, after two to three rows of knots, again thread a weft across the warp alternately, and then use a comb-like metal tool weft down to compact the yarn, also compact the knots below the weft , all these are the reasons why oriental rugs are so strong. 15. Knitting When beginning to weave a new carpet, weavers will not immediately use the color line to knot , first weave a few centimeters smooth strip that seems like canvas ,then follow the blueprint, knot with different colors of yarn on the warp . Then cut the silk yarn with a special knife wool, forming a pile, when finish the first row, tightening the yarn, the warp forming a cross (carpet with tightening the warp is more thick ,using more yarn ,hard)compacted the silk yarn with a special iron comb after you thread a weft silk, in this way ,one row finished, carpet weaving is from the point to the line by line to the surface, exquisite carpets will take shape little by little. Ievey 16. Knitting fringe Remove the finished carpet from the weaving frame , and knitting the excess warp into the ear. 17. Flat shears After finished weaving ,it is flat shearing , according to the carpet pattern, the position of control , depth, angle, trim out the surface with smooth effect Ievey 18. Washed Ievey 19. Shaping Place the carpet in ventilated place to dry it naturally, and use a special rack to straighten the skew latitude and longitude lines or edges . Ievey 20.
