Stang of The Month (Cont.) That is the story of our first Mustang and this is the story of most likely, our last Mustang. We

sold two Mustangs to be able to buy our new one. Our 1967 Fastback we owned for fourteen years and

our 2007 Shelby GT500 we owned for almost

ten years. They were both wonderful cars and

we miss both of them. The new 2017 Mustang

GT 5.0 Convertible has helped us to be able to

move forward.

This past summer Sharon and I started

thinking about how little we were driving either

of these two. Part of the reason was having

two from which to choose to drive. We

decided we no longer wanted to own two

Mustangs and we also missed not having a

convertible. There are several S550 platform

Mustangs in the club. I looked at them and

talked to the owners. I really liked what I saw and was told. This is one of the benefits of being part of such

a great club and being able to share with each other. I went on the Ford site and built our car. Sharon and

I really had fun picking and choosing what we might want. You are able to see it, and then change your

mind and build a different one. It was both fun and nerve-racking. After doing this for several weeks we

made our decision and ordered it.

Then the agony of having to wait began. It was nice weather and we wanted our new convertible!

It was ordered in August and finally arrived in October. We now had our beautiful new Mustang and we

were ready to do some driving on the wonderful fall days Spokane is known for. This part of the year is

often affectionately referred to as, “Indian Summer”. I am not sure where that originated, but it has always

meant beautiful fall days. As we know, those days did not happen much this fall. I believe it was one of the

rainiest Octobers on record. We were able get in a few days of driving. One of them was a wonderful drive

to Sandpoint to visit the Framer’s Market in the

city park. We found a nice restaurant for lunch

and drove home. It was the cars first,

“shake-down cruise.” I love the way it drives

and handles. I know many of you might

disagree, but I love the automatic transmission.

To put it humorously it requires, “less thinking.”

This is good for an old guy that will be

seventy-five on St. Patrick’s Day. It is amazing to

me; I was in my fifties when we bought our first

Mustang and am now in my seventies when we

buy our last Mustang. Has any one else in the

club gotten any older?

Sharon and I, like the rest of you, are so

looking forward to spring and then summer. This year, like the first year we joined, we can put the top down

when we cruise, if we so desire. Mentioning cruises, I have offered to resurrect our old shake-down cruise –

with trivia and cracker-jack prizes in May. I am sure all of us will get our Mustangs out several times before

that. I know we will. We are all going to have many “happy-trails.”

The Prez Says...

Finally, the snow is melting. There is pavement on

my street; however there are holes you can hide your car

in. It’s time to think about getting those ponies ready to

ride. Our club activities are firing up. Last month the

Show-no-Shine brought many out. This month the Bingo

Night on March 18th, next month, the Spokane Speed and

Custom show. It is time to check the club calendar at least

monthly to stay in touch with any changes and new activi-

ties.

I had an opportunity to speak to the Best Western

Hotel/Motel representative for the Washington/Idaho area

at the AG Show. Through this connection I was able to get

the name of the Manager of the Prosser BW Hotel. I am

talking with him about the Wine Cruise August 19-20, and

setting up a block of rooms for us and possible trips to

other locations.

I’m impressed with the number of member volun-

teers that are getting involved with helping in Club activi-

ties and needs. As we go into the Spokane Speed and Cus-

tom show in April, help will be needed setting up our dis-

play and securing decorations for our “Horsing Around at

the Beach” theme. If you have any palm trees, sand, surf

boards, or beach items you could lend to the display, bring

them down! Set up will be scheduled for April 6th. The

show will run through the 9th.

Once again, I would like to invite anyone with ide-

as, or thoughts that would be of interest to the club to let

any of the officers or board members hear what they are

so they can be addressed.

Meeting Minutes Feb 7, 2017 Shaun Huck

The meeting was called to order by President Tom Morris, who also led the Pledge of Allegiance.

New Guests and Members:

Bob Ball has re-enlisted, he has a 2001 GT Convertible.

Doug Bender has joined with his 1999 Cobra in Red which he purchased from fellow member Denny Jones.

Minutes

Last month’s minutes were approved unanimously as published in the newsletter.

President’s Comment

Tom wanted to share some of the stories of what members are doing outside the club. This month’s story is about how John Ward and Dave Brink did a lot of work on one of Steve Gleason’s Mustangs. They tore the bottom off and rebuilt the front brakes and put new spindles on it. John and two friends, a painter and a mechanic, spent four months every day repainting and restoring the car to take it down to New Orleans where they raffled it off for a $140,000 profit. The man who won it ended up having to sell it and Steve bought it back. It currently sits, prominently displayed with Steve’s name on it, at Pirelli’s Custom Cars in New Orleans. Tom pre-sented John with some photo enlargements of the statue The Rebirth which commemorates both when Steve Gleason blocked the punt by Michael Koenen of the Atlanta Falcons during the first game in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome after Hurricane Katrina as well

as the career and lifetime accomplishments of Steve Gleason himself.

Spokane Speed and Custom Show The club’s theme will be “Horsing Around at the Beach”. Everyone who can bring beach themed decorations, please do. Two of the cars selected have bowed out so two more will need to be selected. Kim Frank and Doug Pickett were selected. The club display will be in building 5 and we have a 20 x 60 ft space to use. Cars that are part of the club display are

also eligible for individual trophies as well. The show will be April 7th-9th.

January Ice Cream Run was at Hogan’s on January 17th. The weather wasn’t very good but a small group of members gathered anyway

and had a good time with good food.

Events and Activities

INCCC Show No Shine

From the INCCC Website: “The 2017 INCCC Show-no-Shine was another success. The theme was "Barn Dance" and some attendees got into the spirit and dressed in costume. Some demonstrated their prowess (or lack thereof) on the dance floor. No matter, the point of the "party" aspect of the evening is to have some fun. The food was good and everyone seemed to have a good time.”

“It must be remembered that the real purpose of the event is to present awards to deserving recipients, for "Man of the year,” "Woman of the Year,” Business of the year,” Couple of the Year,” and car club "Newsletter of the Year." The newsletter winner is chosen by the Board after reviewing the actual newsletters submitted throughout the year by their respective clubs. All other awards are chosen by the Board from written nominations submitted by car club members. The nomination forms must include verbiage as to why the nominator believes their nominee deserves the particular award. The awards are very special to the winners, because they receive their award as a result of being recognized by their peers for their contribution of time, effort, and knowledge to benefit the greater car hobby community. Congratulations to the 2017 award winners.”

Several Members of IEMC represented the club with pride, and it looks like they had fun as well.

Mustang Featured in Famous Film Remake

Ford has ventured into Virtual Reality filmmaking with a redux of the 1976 classic “Rendezvous” by Claude

Lelouch in which a supposed Ferrari 275 GTB was driven at super-illegal speeds through the streets of Paris. The

camera was placed low on the front bumper of the car (which was actually a Mercedes 450 SEL with a sound

track of the GTB dubbed in) to emphasize the feeling of speed. In the newest itera6on , named “ReRendezvous”,

Ford uses a Mustang GT to run the same basic course (at legal speeds, of course) and adds a very cool feature: a

360 degree camera. Oh, and the featured character is a woman, late for a date, on the way to meet her man.

The completed video is interac6ve so that the viewer, using a computer or smart device, can change the

view angle from straight ahead to any direc6on, up, down or sideways. Why you’d want to look at the sky or the

ground is unclear, but the effect is fascina6ng.

The video can be seen at a number of online sites including autoblog.com and motorauthority.com or by

Googling “Mustang Rendezvous”.
