Technology Solutions for Government Schools to Fight against Covid 19

IEEE HAC funded project titled “Technology Solution for Government Schools to Fight against Covid 19” was

implemented by the Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore and ERNET India, under MeitY, Government of

India for the following schools.

1. TNGR Higher secondary school, Coimbatore

2. Lady Willingdon Higher secondary school, Triplicane, Chennai

3. Government Higher secondary school, Anakapathur, Chengalpet.

Under this project, the integrated solution to screen the temperature of the student through the automated thermal

camera, the automated hand sanitizing to provide hygiene and to create the awareness to the students on Covid 19,

as well as social distancing by the PA system, was implemented. The technology-based integrated solution of Covid 19

is very helpful for the teachers to monitor the temperature of the student. Earlier, at least 4 teachers were involved

for manual screening and hand sanitizing of the students. The process is now completely automated which has

reduced the burden on the teachers and web-based monitoring of the student temperature helps to record and

retrieve the data from anywhere. The Added feature of face recognition can be used for student and teacher’s

attendance system post-Covid 19. The project was inaugurated by Dr.C. Usharani, Joint Director, Department of

Education, Government of Tamilnadu and it is handed over to the government schools by the Our honourable

chairman Dr. N. Kumarappan, IEEE Madras section on 11.03.2021.

Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering,Kalavakkam “Data Utopia” Data Utopia was a two round technical event which aimed to test the data analytics and machine learning skills of the participants. The first round was a test of their statistical and data interpretation skills in 20 mins by solving multiple choice questions in an online quiz portal. Each team was put in a breakout room along with a volunteer to monitor them. A total of 12 teams participated in this round. After the rapid-fire round, the top five teams with the best quiz score were selected for the second round. This round tested the knowledge of exploratory data analysis (coding) and deriving insights. Being 1.5 hours round, it had two stages.

In the first stage, the participants were asked to find the dataset themselves by cracking few puzzles. After finding the features, each team was given a drive link which had the dataset and the access to a coding platform for the remaining duration. It was then a rigorous session of carefully exploring the data and understanding to derive the best insights in the end. After 1.5 hours, the access to the platform was withdrawn and the coded notebooks of the teams were collected and scrutinized and the two winning teams with the best code and insights was declared.
