Introduction of Standards and Product Programme

The Standards

The product programme “Instrumentation Cable ICON®“ covers products which are based

on the European standard EN 50288-7 and the US-American standards UL 13, UL 2250 and

UL 1277.

This product programme gives extensive coverage to the requirements of the different

Installation and Safety Regulations which are applied for measurement, control and monitoring

systems in industrial plants. As a result the user has a product programme at his disposal for

applications world wide.

EN 50288-7

The European standard EN 50288-7 represents the first standard for instrumentation cables

for onshore applications which has been created by a recognised international

standardisation organisation.

The future meaning of this standard will be underlined by the fact that it will

also become national standard in all CENELEC attached countries (at present

28). National standards conflicting with the EN-Standard will have to be

withdrawn after a transitional period.

UL 13, UL 2250 and UL 1277

Instrumentation, Control and Thermocouple extension cables according to

above standards have to be applied in those systems, where “Installation and

Safety regulations“ are based on the “National Electrical Code“ (NEC).

The NEC Handbook is published by the “National Fire Protection Association“ a leading

US standardisation for safety, particularly for fire protection. As installation guide it is

mandatory in the USA, however, it is also practised in some other countries.

Instrumentation, Control and Thermocouple extension cables

will thereby meet the following standards and types:

⇒ 300 V “Power Limited Tray Cable” (PLTC) acc. to UL 13

“Instrumentation Tray Cable”(ITC) acc. to UL 2250

⇒ 600 V “Tray Cable” (TC) acc. to UL 1277
