Contacting software support
IBM Software Support provides assistance with product defects.
Before contacting IBM Software Support, your company must have an active IBM
software maintenance contract, and you must be authorized to submit problems to
IBM. The type of software maintenance contract that you need depends on the
type of product you have:
About this book vii
v For IBM distributed software products (including, but not limited to, Tivoli,
Lotus®, and Rational® products, as well as DB2 and WebSphere products that
run on Windows or UNIX® operating systems), enroll in Passport Advantage® in
one of the following ways:
– Online: Go to the Passport Advantage Web page and click How to Enroll .
The Web address is the following:
www.lotus.com/services/passport.nsf/WebDocs/Passport_Advantage_Home
– By phone: For the phone number to call in your country, go to the IBM
Software Support Web site
(techsupport.services.ibm.com/guides/contacts.html) and click the name of
your geographic region.v For IBM eServer™ software products (including, but not limited to, DB2 and
WebSphere products that run in zSeries®, pSeries®, and iSeries™ environments),
you can purchase a software maintenance agreement by working directly with
an IBM sales representative or an IBM Business Partner. For more information
about support for eServer software products, go to the IBM Technical Support
Advantage Web page (www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/techsupport.html).
If you are not sure what type of software maintenance contract you need, call
1-800-IBMSERV (1-800-426-7378) in the United States or, from other countries, go to
the contacts page of the IBM Software Support Handbook on the Web
(techsupport.services.ibm.com/guides/contacts.html) and click the name of your
geographic region for phone numbers of people who provide support for your
location.
Follow the steps in this topic to contact IBM Software Support:
1. “Determine the business impact of your problem”
2. “Describe your problem and gather background information” on page ix
3. “Submit your problem to IBM Software Support” on page ix
Determine the business impact of your problem
When you report a problem to IBM, you are asked to supply a severity level.
Therefore, you need to understand and assess the business impact of the problem
you are reporting. Use the following criteria:
Severity 1 Critical business impact: You are unable to use the program,
resulting in a critical impact on operations. This condition
requires an immediate solution.
Severity 2 Significant business impact: The program is usable but is
severely limited.
Severity 3 Some business impact: The program is usable with less
significant features (not critical to operations) unavailable.
Severity 4 Minimal business impact: The problem causes little impact on
operations, or a reasonable circumvention to the problem has
been implemented.
viii IBM Tivoli License Manager: Data Dictionary
Describe your problem and gather background information
When explaining a problem to IBM, be as specific as possible. Include all relevant
background information so that IBM Software Support specialists can help you
solve the problem efficiently. To save time, know the answers to these questions:
v What software versions were you running when the problem occurred?
v Do you have logs, traces, and messages that are related to the problem
symptoms? IBM Software Support is likely to ask for this information.
v Can the problem be recreated? If so, what steps led to the failure?
v Have any changes been made to the system? (For example, hardware, operating
system, networking software, and so on.)
v Are you currently using a workaround for this problem? If so, please be
prepared to explain it when you report the problem.
The problem determination toolkit includes commands for assembling problem
determination information for all product components. For more information see
IBM Tivoli License Manager: Problem Determination.
Submit your problem to IBM Software Support
You can submit your problem in one of two ways:
v Online: Go to the ″Submit and track problems″ page on the IBM Software
Support site (www.ibm.com/software/support/probsub.html). Enter your
information into the appropriate problem submission tool.
v By phone: For the phone number to call in your country, go to the contacts page
of the IBM Software Support Handbook on the Web
(techsupport.services.ibm.com/guides/contacts.html) and click the name of your
geographic region.
If the problem you submit is for a software defect or for missing or inaccurate
documentation, IBM Software Support creates an Authorized Program Analysis
Report (APAR). The APAR describes the problem in detail. Whenever possible,
IBM Software Support provides a workaround for you to implement until the
APAR is resolved and a fix is delivered. IBM publishes resolved APARs on the
IBM product support Web pages daily, so that other users who experience the
same problem can benefit from the same resolutions.
For more information about problem resolution, see “Searching knowledge bases”
and “Obtaining fixes” on page x.
Searching knowledge bases
If you have a problem with your IBM software, you want it resolved quickly. Begin
by searching the available knowledge bases to determine whether the resolution to
your problem is already documented.
Search the information center on your local system or network
IBM provides extensive documentation that can be installed on your local machine
or on an intranet server. You can use the search function of this information center
to query conceptual information, instructions for completing tasks, reference
information, and support documents.
About this book ix
Search the Internet

Internet for the latest, most complete information that might help you resolve your
problem. To search multiple Internet resources for your product, expand the
product folder in the navigation frame to the left and select Support on the Web.
From this topic, you can search a variety of resources including:
v IBM technotes
v IBM downloads

x IBM Tivoli License Manager: Data Dictionary
3. Under Search support for this product, type the keyword phrase:
com.ibm.support. Click the Download check box, and click Submit.
4. Check the search results for updates to support information plug-ins. All
support information plug-ins follow the naming convention,
″com.ibm.support.product.doc.″ If an update is available, select it from the list
and view the download instructions.
5. Save the attached zip file to a temporary location on your hard drive.
6. Unzip the downloaded file, making sure that you retain the subfolders.
7. From the location where you unzipped the file, copy the support information
plug-in folder to your Eclipse plug-ins folder. For example, if your IBM
software product is installed at c:\IBM\WebSphere\, copy the updated plug-in
folder (com.ibm.support.product.doc) to c:\IBM\WebSphere\eclipse\plugins.
8. To see the updated support information, start the information center (or shut it
down and restart it), and expand the Support information node in the
navigation tree.

About this book xi
<INSTALL_DIR>\admin\conf, INSTALL_DIR depends on the location
where you have installed a Tivoli License Manager component,
while \admin\conf is constant.
Operating system-dependent notation
This book uses the Windows convention for environment variables and directory
notation.
When using the UNIX, Linux™, and OS/400® command line you should do the
following:
Environment variables
First verify the correct value for the UNIX, Linux, or OS/400 variable
name, as many variables in different platforms that perform the same task
have different names (for example, %TEMP% in Windows is equivalent to
$tmp in UNIX and Linux). Then replace %Windows_variable% with
$UNIX_variable
File and directory paths
Replace each backslash ( \ ) with a forward slash ( / ).
Note: If you are using the bash shell on a Windows system, you can use the UNIX
conventions.
xii IBM Tivoli License Manager: Data Dictionary
Chapter 1. Overview
This data dictionary describes the tables and application views that make up the
data model for the administration server database for Tivoli License Manager.
Note: Tivoli License Manager also has a runtime server database. However, the
runtime server database contains only working data and is thus not
documented here.
This documentation of the database is provided to enable you to extract data to
create reports that are not available within the product, or for any other use
outside the database.
Attention: Do not directly modify any of the data in these tables. Data can be
modified only by using the supplied Web GUI or the product tools (such as the
catalog manager and the data import commands).
The administration server database is called TLMA, and is the repository for all
information about each organization’s license data, such as license pools, runtime
servers, divisions, application users, and nodes. It also contains information about
applications that can be monitored, monitored product use, and installation.
Database table names
The evolution of Tivoli License Manager has led to the changing of some of the
terminology used in the product:
v If you are a user of earlier versions of the product you will have noted that the
major administrative grouping within the product used to be called customer,
whereas it is now called organization.
v Tivoli License Manager now monitors the use of software products, which in
some prior versions were termed components.
This change of terminology is both appropriate and necessary for both new and
prior users, so that the terms being used better reflect the current usage of Tivoli
License Manager.
The new terminology has been applied throughout all aspects of the user interface.
However, it should be noted that the original terms retain their place in the
internally-used database table names. Thus, the table that contains details of
organizations is still called CUSTOMER, and the table that contains details of
products is still called COMPONENT, even though the interfaces that allow data in
these tables to be updated refer to organization and product, respectively. Only
those users who need to extract data for their own purposes from the tables of
Tivoli License Manager, and thus need to understand the tables and their structure,
need to remember the previous terminology.

Key to using the tables
The key to reading the tables is as follows:
1. Columns of type VARCHAR_UTF and CHAR_UTF allow for the data entry to
be in UTF code (for double-byte languages). In DB2 this is achieved internally
by tripling the size of the column. For example, if a column allows up to 20
characters to be stored, it is shown as type VARCHAR_UTF, with a size of 20
although the space taken by the column in the database is 60 characters.
2. The definition of the LAST_MODIFIED column that appears in many tables is
as follows:
LAST_MODIFIED is a TIMESTAMP used to prevent errors in data
transactions. The database updates the LAST_MODIFIED field each time the
data is changed. The default is the current timestamp.
Using the tables
2 IBM Tivoli License Manager: Data Dictionary
Chapter 2. Tables in the administration server database
This chapter contains details of the permanent tables in the administration server
database. They are listed in alphabetic order.
The tables are divided into two schemas, ADM and SWCAT. However, aliases have
been provided for the SWCAT tables so that all of the tables can be referred to as if
they belonged to the ADM schema. Thus, to identify any field you use the syntax
ADM.<tableName>.<rowName>, for example,
ADM.ADMIN_CUST_REL.ADMINISTRATOR_ID.
In addition to the tables reported here, the administration server also creates some
temporary work tables for use by its various services. These tables are not
documented here.
The following sections group the tables according to their principal functionality:
Administrators
“ADMINISTRATOR” on page 10 Stores details of administrators.
“ADMIN_CUST_REL” on page 9 Maps the ADMINISTRATOR table to the CUSTOMER table
(many-to-many). It provides a list of the organizations to which each
administrator has access.
“PROFILE” on page 56 Defines administrator profiles.
“PROFILE_ACTION” on page 57 Defines actions not allowed for administrator profiles.
Topology
“CUSTOMER” on page 25 Stores information about each organization.
“COUNTRY” on page 23 Stores country information.
“DIVISION” on page 26 Stores details of the divisions that represent the organization’s primary
structural level. Also contains inventory-scan scheduling information for
all agents belonging to the division.
“DIVISION_H” on page 27 The history of the DIVISION table.
“SERVER” on page 58 Stores information about the Tivoli License Manager runtime servers.
“SERVER_H” on page 59 The history of the SERVER table. An entry is made or updated when a
server is added, changed, or removed.
“NODE” on page 44 Stores details of systems on which agents are installed.
“NODE_H” on page 45 The history of the NODE table.
“AGENT” on page 11 Stores details of installed Tivoli License Manager agents.
“AGENT_EVENT” on page 12 Stores details of events at agents.
“AGENT_H” on page 13 The history of the AGENT table.
“AGENT_SYNC_CUST” on page 16 Stores details by organization of the synchronization ratio at the date of
each aggregation.
“AGENT_SYNC_DIV” on page 17 Stores details by division of the synchronization ratio at the date of each
aggregation.

“ENDUSER” on page 28 Stores details of users of the applications that are monitored by Tivoli
License Manager.
Optional fields
“OPT_FIELD” on page 47 Stores the values of optional fields. Each line contains the value for one
optional field for one line in one table (the OPT_FIELD_DEF table
identifies the name of the optional field and the table it belongs to).
“OPT_FIELD_DEF” on page 48 Defines optional fields. Each line defines one optional field for one table.
The table contents are loaded when Tivoli License Manager is installed.
“CUST_OPT_FIELD” on page 24 Maps the CUSTOMER table to the OPT_FIELD_DEF table
(many-to-many). It provides the list of available custom fields for each
organization.
Catalog
“VENDOR” on page 72 Stores information about the software vendors.
“COMPONENT” on page 20 Stores details of software products.
