It all began with one man, the historian Jean-Pierre Verney; for more than forty years he collected artifacts and documents as testimonies of the First World War. Jean-François Copé and Meaux’ local officials wanted to showcase his splendid collection in this museum to offer the public a real journey through history. First we will go back in time to 1870 in order to grasp the pre-war period, before entering the main hall, where you will plunge into the very heart of the years 1914-1918. The adjacent rooms are arranged by themes, enabling you to discover different aspects of the conflict. At the end of your visit, there is a long corridor that illustrates the post- war period and demonstrates how much this conflict has impacted our world today. The entire staff of the museum wishes you a wonderful voyage through time and history! To add to your visit Ask at the Reception Desk about : > Audio-guide 2€ (limited number available) that include a special version with commentary for young people. > Free game booklet , “War Animals”, based upon the role of animals in WW1, for children 7 years old or older. You can borrow a pencil for notes. What if my children need to use the restroom during our visit? Restrooms are located on level 1 (near the café) and on level 2 (opposite the reception desk). There are no restroom within the collection rooms, so please plan ahead. My great-grandmother cannot walk very well, but she really wants to visit the museum. Will the visit be too difficult for her? Your great-grandmother is more than welcome. A limited number of wheel chairs and walking cane-seats are available at the reception desk. We are sure to have backpacks, jackets, lots of things to carry. Where can we store our things? There is a left luggage office on level 1 where you can put your bags and any cumbersome objects. Just insert a one euro coin, which will be returned when you reopen the locker. Can I visit the museum with my baby? Yes! For your convenience, there are baby changing facilities in the women’s restroom on level 2. I would like to share photos of the museum with my friends. May I take pictures? Yes, you may. But please turn off the flash in order to preserve the historic artifacts. The museum is very big! I may want to spend the day there. May I go out for lunch and come back later? Yes, your ticket is good for the whole day. Don’t lose it, and be prepared to show it to the security staff each time you enter the museum. Lunch is available in the museum’s café on level 1. But you may also head to the town centre or go to any restaurant in the Pays de Meaux. I have some questions!
