I am the living bread that came down from heaven, says the Lord; whoever eats this bread will live forever.
Yo soy el pan vivo que ha bajado del cielo, dice el Señor; El que coma de este pan vivirá para siempre.
From the rich Eucharistic themes to be drawn from today’s
second reading, one stewardship theme stands out: The Eucharist
is Christ’s gift to us. Good stewards are grateful for this gift and
realize that no matter their station in life, they are welcome to come
to the table and receive the body and blood of Christ. If Jesus could
break bread with his betrayer, Judas, his denier, Peter, and the
other ten who deserted him, then he will welcome us.

Question of the Week
Body & Blood of Christ —Luke 9:11b-17
Key Passage: Then taking the five loaves and two fish, and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing over them, broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd. They all ate and were satisfied. And when the leftover fragments were picked up, they filled twelve wicker baskets.
Question for adults: When in your life has abundance come from seemingly insufficient beginnings?
Question for children: When has God giv-en you more than you expected?

New CD titles available in our kiosk What is the meaning of life? Fr. Larry Richards tackles life's
biggest question with straightforward, timeless, and often
jolting answers. In this one-of-a-kind, life-affirming reality
check, he unlocks the mysteries of our existence and opens
our hearts and souls to the meaning of life. The Truth will
give you concrete answers on how to live.
Listener Comments — This was probably the most beneficial
CD our family has ever heard! It had a profound effect on
several family members and I will be forever grateful!!
I work in the Prison Ministry for Spanish inmates, and Fr.
Larry's presentation has provided me with great material to
share in my ministry.

Happy Birthday: No birthdays recorded for the month of May.
Wedding Anniversary: May 13, Thomas and Arlis Dragovich, 49 years.
We lift up to the Lord in pray-
er all those who seek healing
through the peace of Christ, espe-
cially Cecilia Savage, Connie
Knowles and Homer Poor.
We pray too, for those who
struggle with grief or addictions
and those who labor to provide
our well being and freedom espe-
cially first responders and military, and for those separated from their loved ones
and family. For each of them, may the promise and the gift of the peace of Christ
fill their hearts and minds, and may almighty God always provide their every
need.

(CRUX) A U.S. government official visiting Rome on Monday said that as a result of Islamic terrorist groups such as ISIS, the “door for Christians in Iraq is closing” and the window of time to prevent their eradication is narrowing. “I feel a sense of urgency, because Christians are leaving [the Middle East], and at some point it could be-come demographically unable for this community to sustain itself,” said Knox Thames, the U.S. Department of State’s Special Advisor for Religious Minorities in the Near East and South and Central Asia. Pushing the door back open, Thames said, “will be hard, it’s a long [and] complicated answer to a compli-cated situation.” Thames said guaranteeing reli-gious diversity and the survival of churches such as the Assyrian Church of the East, which after having its pa-triarchal see in Chicago for over 70 years is now moving back to Erbil, Iraq, is a priority of the Obama admin-istration. Speaking to journalists on Monday in Rome, Thames highlighted Secre-tary of State John Kerry’s declaration of genocide of Christians and other minorities in Iraq and Syria as a sign of that commitment. Recognizing that ISIS is systemat-ically trying to eliminate ethnic and
religious minorities was an attempt to “give the [persecuted] hope that the world has noticed,” he said, adding that in the past, recognizing a geno-cide has led to a concrete international reaction. Catholic leaders condemn ‘moral failure’ of world’s humanitarian system.
(CNS) Catholic leaders have said that the global humanitarian system is a “moral failure” during the World Humanitarian Summit yesterday. “Our collective unwillingness to prevent or prepare adequately for dis-asters is a systemic moral failure,” Sean Callahan, Catholic Relief Ser-vices’ chief operating officer said. “Too many innocent people suffer from the consequences of disasters caused by or aggravated by human action and inaction. It is the time to reform the global humanitarian sys-tem,” Callahan urged the 10,000 gath-ered, most of whom say the “broken” humanitarian system must be fixed to cope with the largest global humani-tarian crisis since World War II. Callahan said more must be done by governments “to prevent and end wars, respect humanitarian laws and provide more generous” humanitarian assistance.

US official warns ‘door closing for Christians in Iraq is closing’ By Editor, Catholic News, May 27, 2016
Pope Francis: Perseverance in prayer needed, but not “magic wand”
(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis on said “prayer is not a magic wand.” He was speaking during his weekly Gen-eral Audience in St. Peter’s Square. The Pope was discussing the Para-ble of the Unjust Judge, also known as the Parable of the Persistent Widow. “Widows, together with orphans and foreigners, were the most vulnera-ble groups of society” – Pope Francis said – “The rights secured to them by the Law could be easily trampled up-on because, being alone and helpless, it was difficult from them to avail themselves: A poor widow, there, alone, no one to defend her, she could be ignored, even denied justice; thus also with the orphan, the foreigner, the migrant…at that time this was a very great problem.” The Holy Father said the widow in the parable used the only weapon she had: Her persistence in presenting her request for justice, “and this persis-tence achieved its goal.” Pope Francis said if the widow can bend the will of the Unjust Judge, then God, who is “a good and just Father,” will “do justice to those who cry out to him day and night.” “All of us experience moments of fatigue and discouragement, especial-ly when our prayers seem ineffec-tive,” Pope Francis said. “But Jesus assures us: unlike the unjust judge, God promptly answers his children, although this does not mean he does it in the time and man-ner that we would like. Prayer is not a magic wand!”, continued the Pope, “It helps to preserve our faith in God, and to trust in Him even when we do not comprehend His will. In this, Jesus himself – who prayed so much! – is the example.”
