Period 3

Summary This book is about a young little child refuses on not

getting up. His parents and others would make the most out of it to get him out of bed, but instead he will make

up anything that would come up in mind in order for him not to get up, and practically his parents, cops don’t do

anything to motivate him on getting up.

Themes1. Parents need to motivate their children to do what they need and

have to do. (parents)

2.Students should not make excuses for not attending school. (student)

3.Excuse will never take you anywhere in life. (student)

4.Kids should limit their action towards adult. (student)

5.Parents should take more in consideration of what their

children do. (parents)

Theme No.1Theme:

Parents need to motivate their children to do what they need and have to do.

Quotes:“Nobody’s going to get me up.” “But nothing’s going to get me

up” (pg.12,26)

Exigence:During that time, parental roles implicit in several nontraditional family styles,

such as dual career/dual worker, single parent, and role-sharing families, and reviews the effects of paternal involvement on child development.

Theme:Students should not make excuses for not attending school.

Quote:“You wont get me up with a Strawberry Flip…””You won’t get me up”.

Exigence:During that time era most parents would not mind if their children will

attend to school or not they were more concentrated on rather just having for on the table and have nothing to worry about than just

work.

Theme:Excuses would never lead you no where in life.

Quote:“My tongue is asleep.”….. “And my teeth are too.”

Exigence:

During the 1980’s parents their were many assassinate and that would be a reason why kids were afraid to be alone so instead they would make up any excuse in order to not

be left alone.

Kids should limit their actions towards adults.

Quote:“You can bring in the police.”…”Why cant you understand.”

Exigence:Kids during that time era were and wanted to be more

independent, in another words they cared less on what their parents thought about what they were doing was

right or wrong.

Theme No. 5

Theme:Parents should take more in consideration of their children.

Quote:“I guess he really means it.”

Exigence:During that time parents didn’t consider in their children education. They were more focus on having a job and being

able to feed them or put them to work.

Child Interview Explanation:1. What did you learned from this story?

Edgar told us that the story was about “that the kid doesn't want to get up from bed.

2.Did this help you learned something from the book?

Edgar respond, “ Yes, to not lie to your parents.” & a few seconds later he also respond

“always tell them the truth.”
