The people of Red Cloud who rideand drive hordes at a speed that isabsolutely dangerous, should be arrestcd and fined, and Marshal Watsonshould see that it is stopped. Manytimes it is actually unsafe tor pedes-

One thing that has been sadlyneglected in the vicinity of Red Cloudis the public highways, there seem tobe no system for working them. In-

stead of a gang of men going out andworking in vicinities adjacent to the irfarms, they go here and there and con-

sequently the high hills and deep cutsare not often graded to any advantage.The making of roads and keeping themin order is what is needed, and everyoverseer of highways should tike agang of men and do the work

merely to put in time butto do good work in the rarae manneras if they were doing it for themselves.The roads should be worked in sec-tions according to its needs and work-

ed good.

This decision is certainly an injus-

tice to the county e'erk, although itmay come wilhing the pale of the law.from the fact that the county clerkhas to spend his time and money tomake this list out, and does not re-

ceive one iota from the county for sodoing. The law should be amended sothat the clerk would receive pay for

all labor rendered. The county orstate should not expect it officials towork gratuitously anymore than an in-

dividual would expect it of his hiredhelp. The decision is in accordancewith the statute, but it is certainly notequitable. This decision ends a con-

test that ia of interest to every countyclerk in the state of Nebraska.
