THANK YOU, GRACE
After many years of good and faithful service above and beyond the call of duty, Grace Wolff has retired as leader of the Miami Valley Round Dancers and the Miami Valley Folk Dance Club. In these days of too much to do - Grace was unique. She always had time to do more. Grace was not only an able leader in the above groups but gave of her time in girl scouting, she was a troop leader, trained other leaders and put together several very successful Girl Scout Folk festivals. Grace worked many years with retarded children in teaching them to dance as well as always having time to plan exhibitions of round and folk dancing to create interest in dancing and to recruit new dancers. After training at Philadelphia General Hospital and obtaining her R.N., Grace attended Temple University and became a physical therapist. Then Grace came to U. of Dayton where she obtained her aachelor of Scienc.e degree and her husband, Bill, a successful attorney and former judge.

Bill and Grace have three lovely children - Bill, Jr. is a law clerk in the office of the District Judge in Boston. He and Penny presented Grace and Bill with a grandson last fall. Susie teaches art in Washington, D.C. and studying law. Mary is a senior at Duquesne University and is a member of their famous Tamaritzens Folk Dance Group. Both last year and this, Grace's folk dance club sponsored the Tammies in Dayton to sell-out crowds at Memorial Hall. Although Grace has retired from dance leadership, she hasn't slowed down. She is now director of Public Relations for the School of Nursing at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Dayton and we know she is giving 150%, as usual, to this new and worthwhile activity.
Many years ago, when our round dance club was small and just beginning, Grace had a Valentine party during which she taught Two Hearts in Three Quarter Time and brought forth the idea of bringing in nationally known round dance leaders. Frank and Carolyn Hamilton were her choice. None of us who danced with Grace knew anything about putting together a round dance weekend, but her experience and training produced results. That July, we had an attendance of 100 couples from 6 states - it was only the beginning - for ten years the Hamiltons came and this summer weekend became a must for dancers from surrounding areas. Through Grace's foresight and the Hamilton's ability Dayton became known round dance-wise. It became a custom for those who took round dance lessons through the fall and winter and who were ready to join the round dance club to be entertained with a Pennsylvania Dutch Dinner. Grace did the planning and the cooking was done by all members with her recipes and guidance. Those who have had this marvelous meal know how "Wonderfully Good" it is and we hope some day she comes back to give us this special treat.

DATE 'N 8'S
It has been decided to omit from the agenda, the usual Labor Day picniC, because of increasing complications in connection with the event. Efforts will be made to arrange to have a picnic at the pavilion, preceding a regular scheduled dance, some time during the summer. Date'n 8's new council will be increased from four couple members to six couples. ThiS, it is believed, will increase the efficiency of the group. There will be a Fall Special Dance, date yet to be announced, sponsored by date'n 8's - featuring either Dub Perry or Deuce Williams - at the pavilion. WATCH FOR THE DATE!! Reminders will be everywhere, lest you forget the very important Miami Valley Dance Council's Fall Festival on September 29th. Dancing will be from 2 - 5 p.m. AND from 6:30 - 8 p.m. Your $4.00 ticket will cover the entire day's sessions. All Dancers are most cordially invited to join us as we dance on:
April 27 to Harold Illian May 11 to Jim Gordon May 25 to Don Zente June 8 to Joe Chiles June 22 to Hugh Johnson
Each spring, as the outdoor world take~ on a new way of life, a week is designated as Good Human Relations Week. Perhaps we, too, could follow suit if we remember:

All of us who have had the opportunity of working with Grace in any way through her various projects will miss her leadership but we do wish her the best in her new job. So, for all her dancing friends, thank you, Grace, it was "Wonderfully Good".
COLUMBUS DANCE
The 2nd annual National Challenge Square Dance Convention will be held June 27-29 in Columbus, Ohio. The dancing will be all hash (no singing calls, no rounds), and will feature the highest level calling in square dancing today. Callers will include: Jim Earl -Lima, Ohio; Ed Foote - Pittsburgh, Pa.; Lee Kopman - Long Island, N.Y.; Deuce Williams - Dearborn, Mich. For information contact: Ed Foote, 457 McKnight Circle, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15237

It's more than a week - it's a way of life And giving ourselves for a cause It's the simple way of conquering strife, Performing without applause.
It's a helping hand or a stranger's smile, Just a thought, a word, or a deed; It's tilling the soil for mile after mile To plant one loving seed.
It's the key that opens a heart long locked, The step that treads a new path, The spirit of warmth that was winterblocked Emerging through stormy wrath.
It's polished silver - not tarnished brass, It's youth that will never grow grey, The hand that points to the sunlight pass Leading from darkness to day.
It's a new-found love for husband and Wife, Co-worker made into friend, The triumph of man - the wisdom of life, Combined to a perfect end.
It's love in it's glory - faith at it's best It's God - and woman - and man Creating a world that is truly bless'd, And bridging to Heaven's span.

We are inviting you to come and dance with us. We dance the 1st and 3rd Saturday, 8:00--11:00 p.m. and 5th Saturday is combined with Date'N 8's.
A poem by Butch Little---Taken from the Akron's Linked Squares
LEVEL---LEVEL
Level, level what does it mean, Advanced, beginner, in between? I've danced 'em fast, I've danced 'em slow, I've danced a lot, but I donlt know. There's always a caller and music there, There's always eight people in every square. A dance is just a place to go, To get together with friends, you know.

as the instructors. We have had many enjoyable evenings of fellowship ( and birthdays--with cake and punch--UMMM!) It's quite a thrill to be able to get up and do the favorite round dances instead of just wishing we could.
For those who have never heard of Friendship Hall -- it was originally built before the turn of the century as an Opera House (with the old backdrops, etc., still in place behind the stage). During the 30's and 40's it saw many a night as a place to either Square Dance or do some ballroom dancing under the hugh rotating mirrored ball (now gone).
After sitting idle for a number of years, one of our Square Dancers (Bill Sorrell) saw in this building a likely place for Partners' All Square Dance Club to dance. The owner was contacted, and after leasing the building, forming an Incorporated group of seven couples, the old Jr. Hall was painted and cleaned of quite an accumulation of dirt after its years of inactivity. Since this group of seven couples were old friends, the name "Friendship Hall" seemed an apt name.
Partners' All and the new Club formed of this year's class, Silver Squares, now meet in the Hall on alternate Mondays to enjoy dancing on the still beautiful hardwood floor. (Partners' All dance the second and fourth Monday; Silver Squares, the first and third Monday. Caller: Jerry He1t.) There is also an OPEN DANCE the first and third Saturday of every month with different callers. Hope to see you! (The Hall can be rented by contacting the Western Shop in Miamisburg.)
The Round dancers have been meeting every Thursday and for anyone who has been away from Round Dancing for a while and would like to start the activity again, please come and join us -- you would be most welcome~
