INSTALLING PTODRIVESHAFT

The log splitter can be driven bya PTO driveshaft (not providedwith the log splitter) that transmitstorque from tractor during normaloperation. The PTO driveshaftrepresents exterme danger. Readyand understand all of the safetyand operating instructions manualthat came with the PTO driveshaft.

Back the rear of the tractor toward thelog splitter. Position the lower draft armsclose enough to the splitter’s hookup pins.Apply the tractor parking brake and turnthe engine off.

Block the rear wheels on both sides infront and back with wedges or otherappropriate objects.

Slide the lower draft arms onto the splitterhookup pins and secure with locking pins.

Position the upper draft arm inside themounting bracket and align with themounting bracket holes. Insert the hitchpin to secure the upper draft arm in place.

SPLITTER OPERATIONPlan your work site. Work safely and saveeffort by planning your work before hand.Have your logs positioned where they canbe easily reached. Have a site located tostack the split wood or load it onto a nearbytruck or other carrier. Position the log splitteron solid level ground.

Apply a thin coat of grease to the surfacesof the ram before operation will lengthenthe durability of the ram.

TRANSPORTATION3-point attachment to tractor allows the logsplitter to be moved easily.

Allow for added length in drivingsituations, e.g., when turning, parking, and crossing intersections.

Before transporting, be certain thelog splitter is correctly and securelyattached to the tractor and thesafe chains of the PTO are in place.

Make sure the log splitter israised high enough to clear allobstacles during transportation.

Never transport the log splitterwith the PTO engaged.

Danger of log splitter tipping dueto torque resulting duringoperating, causing seriousinjuries and damage. Log splittermust be secured by using 3-pointattachment to tractor. Tractorhydraulics makes the log splittersecure against tipping overduring operation, and yet allowsit to be moved easily.

Always ensure parking brake isengaged on tractor and the rearwheels are blocked with wheelchocks both sides in front andback.

Bleed the air out of the hydraulic systembefore starting the log splitter. The coverof the hydraulic oil tank should be loosenedby some rotations until air can go in andout of the oil tank smoothly.

Air flow thru the oil tank filler should bedetectable during the operations.

Before moving the log splitter, make surethe cover of the oil tank is tightened to avoidoil leaking from this point.

Failed to loosen the oil tank coverwill keep the sealed air in hydraulicsystem being compressed afterbeing decompressed. Suchcontinuous air compression anddecompression will blow out theseals of the hydraulic system andcause permant damage to the logsplitter.

The PTO of the tractor can power a separatehydraulic pump on the log splitter to performthe function of splitting logs. Set tractorthrottle at IDLE before engaging PTO withlog splitter attached. Increase tractor throttleto RUN RPM’s required to obtain 540 rpmPTO speed before splitting. Reduce tractorthrottle to IDLE before disengaging PTO.

Do not attempt to split greenlogs. Dry, seasoned logs splitmuch more easily, and will notjam as frequently as green wood.

Place the log onto the support tablevertically, sitting flat on the support tableand push it against the hangnail to secureit. Be sure the wedge and support table willcontact the log squarely on the ends. Neverattempt to split a log at an angle. Lower thewedge until the log is splitted open.

Stack as you work. This will provide a saferwork area, by keeping it uncluttered, andavoid the danger of tripping, or damagingthe power cord.

Accumulated split wood and woodchips can create a hazardous workenvironment. Never continue towork in a cluttered work area whichmay cause you to slip, trip or fall.

To disenage the retract control level byremoving the loading spring will allow thewedge ram to retract automatically afterboth control handles are released.

Break log in the direction of itsgrowing grain. Do not place logacross the log splitter for splitting. It may be dangerous and mayseriously damage the machine.

Do not remove jammed logs withyour hands. Never use anotherpeople to help you with freeingjammed log.
