    Reid Moldenhauer

    ENGL 1102 Homework response

    9/8/13

    1. I personally have never experienced workshops in school before. But I have had many instanceswere teacher have given me feedback good and bad. Some good feedback that I have had

before is when the teacher first off asks me what my concerns and questions are. Then based off

my concerns they comeback with feedback that essentially helps a lot. The really only bad

feedback I can think of would be when the teacher doesnt tell you anything at all. Typically

most teachers will answer your concerns and set the student on the right path. So for me I really

    have never had bad feedback.

    2. Editing and revising are essential parts of the writing process. Revising comes before editingbecause revising is what the writer does right after the rough draft is done. In the revising step,

a writing will review the paper and look for anything that needs fixed, change, or completely

redone. Than right after the revising part is the editing step. In this step the writer knows the

direction he or she wants to take the paper to make it stand out even more. In this step is when

peer review or teacher feedback is found to help make it a better paper. Yes, it is nessecary to

do both steps because without these steps the paper is not final draft worthy. The paper needsto go through these steps so the writer knows what he or she needs to work on to make it a

    better paper.

    3. In general, I dont have many concerns about peer workshops because to me they are a chanceto learn something new from a different perspective about your paper. My only concern would

be if the group in a whole is unclear of the assignment, then any feedback would be irrelevant

and not what the assignment actually needs.

    4. One suggestion of Straubs, that I think is very important, is point to problems and areas ofimprovement but do it in a constructive way. (Richard Straub, Responding-Really Responding-to

Other Students Writing,Boynton/Cook Publishers,1999) I think this strategy is the most

important one that Straubs gives us because it tell us that even if you are very good friends withthat person tell them what you really see and give them constructive advice so that they can get

the best grade possible. Another suggestion that is how you talk to them through comments or

word. Straub says to, Sound like you normally sound when youre speaking with a friend or

acquaintance. (Richard Straub, Responding-Really Responding-to Other Students Writing,

Boynton/Cook Publishers,1999) This is huge because when you are correcting a writers paper

you want to talk to them about problems in a friendly way that way the problem can get

resolved and the paper is a better piece as a whole.
