PREVENTIONAll Behaviors:* Serve a purpose* Occur for a reason

If you figure out what the child really needs or wants

you will be able to figure out how to prevent the

tantrum in the first place.

IGNORE* If your attention is the thing that’s kindling

the fire; withdraw it.

Even if you cant safely walk away, you can refuse to engage.

PICK AND CHOOSE BATTLESIf you are going to “give in”- do it early.

Page 9: Htt//youtu.be/Q1ZR4Av-HBIhtt//youtu.be/Q1ZR4Av-HBI

RELOCATEWhen you foresee this being a BIG one in a

public place, when possible, get up and go!

You can always go back to the market or target later.

Look for Patterns What is going on in the environment?

Are they hungry? Are they tired?

Do you notice behaviors happen at certain times or places?

Is there sun in their eyes? Is it noisy?

ACCEPT Child may need to struggle with some

behavior to learn new and better ways of communicating.

It’s okay to “know” that a behavior is going to happen and allow it to happen…it’s part of how we learn!
