WorkPlace Pro Utilities

• A set of utilities that automate time-consuming tasks in WorkPlace Pro:– Duplicating Logic Bundles

– Building Navigations Trees

– Building Alarm Pages

– Building Value Tables

• Includes a pre-built web site that lets you easily navigate to any of your Niagara customer sites.

WorkPlace Pro Utilities

• Stand Alone Application– Does not require WorkPlace Pro to be installed on the workstation

• Works with WorkPlace Pro XML Format– Engineer exports WorkPlace Pro application to XML format using

Administrative Tools

– WorkPlace Pro Utilities reads and modifies the XML file

– After modification, the XML file is reimported into WorkPlace Pro

Bundle Duplicator• Scenario

– A project contains an Air Handling Unit that is typical of 20 systems– The Engineer creates the system with a Logic Bundle, Graphics Container and all associated

logs, schedules and links amongst the objects

• The Old Way– The Engineer creates the other systems by copying and pasting the components 19 times,

modifying each in the same way to rename the objects, recreate the links and change text strings (i.e., “AHU 1” to “AHU 2”, “AHU 3”, etc.) in log headings and alarm descriptions

– Very tedious and time consuming process– Prone to errors that are difficult to find without extensive testing of each individual system– Total time required increases for each additional instance of the system

• The New Way– Using the Bundle Duplicator, the Engineer selects the Logic Bundle and the Graphics

Container, and specifies the new names for the other 19 instances of the system. Everything else is automatic.

– Takes almost no time at all– Error free duplication– Time to create one system or one hundred systems is the same

Bundle Duplicator

• Duplicates “Typical Of” Logic Bundles– Duplicates Logic Bundle and all objects

– Duplicates associated Graphics Container

– Creates all links between them

– Renames shadow object for controller

– Executes Find and Replace of system name in alarmText properties (for Inputs) and Description properties (for Logs)

• Works with Client/Server Model– Logic Bundle and Graphics Container can be in separate files

– Creates all external subscription links between them

Tree Builder

Page 8: Http:// WorkPlace Pro Utilities

Tree Builder• Scenario

– An Engineer wants to create a graphical tree to easily navigate amongst the various status screens in a system using the system documented in the Niagara Web Solutions Guide

• The Old Way– The Engineer notes the names and structure of the Gx Pages in the system– They modify a JavaScript file to program the creation of the tree– Each folder and graphics page on the tree requires several lines of JavaScript code– Another tedious and time consuming process– Prone to typographical and logic errors– Total time required increases as the tree gets larger

• The New Way– Using the Tree Builder, the Engineer imports the WorkPlace Pro file to automatically create the

tree in an easy to use graphical editing environment– Folders and pages can be easily renamed, modified and restructured– The JavaScript file is created instantly. No programming or JavaScript knowledge required.– Error free and easy to modify– Time to build the tree is practically the same regardless of the size of the tree

Tree Builder

• Generates External HTML Navigation Tree– Position the Tree in a separate pane on the side of the screen to allow

user to easily navigate from one page to another

– Start by importing tree structure from WorkPlace Pro file, or create a new tree from scratch

– Easily add, remove and reorder tree nodes

– Powerful Find and Replace features for easy renaming of nodes

– Each node can link to a GxPage or an Internet URL

– Handles all 8 standard security groups

Customer Site Navigation Web Site

• Complete Stand-Alone Web Site Application– Ready for deployment on any

Web Server– Easily modifiable using Tree

Builder Utility– For use by technicians -

easily access any customer site from one location

Alarm Page Builder

Alarm Page Builder• Scenario

– A project contains alarm inputs in various Logic Bundles– The Engineer wants to create a set of pages containing all these alarms for easy viewing, locating and resolution of

alarm conditions

• The Old Way– For each alarm in each Logic Bundle, the Engineer:

• Adds a Text Object as a caption and a Boolean object as the alarm.• Sets the properties of each individual object to specify fonts, borders and bitmap images for the alarms by hand• Manually links each Boolean object back to the correct Input in the Logic Bundle

– Tedious and time consuming– Difficult to test real time error conditions, so problems may not be noticed until alarm conditions are missed– Total time required grows with the size of the system. May limit the number of alarms that are selected to be presented– If additional alarms are added, a large amount of restructuring of the page layouts may be required to keep the

associated alarms together

• The New Way– Using the Alarm Page Builder, the Engineer imports the WorkPlace Pro file and selects the container for the Logic

Bundles. – They are presented with an easy to understand graphical tree view of all the inputs in each, and can choose:

• The Logic Bundles and inputs to Include, and the order to display then• Descriptions, fonts, borders, images and any other desired properties to use for all the objects• Page layout parameters, such as margins, spacing and column and page breaks

– The Bundle Duplicator then creates all the Gx Objects on the new Alarm Page and establishes all the links– Instantaneous and error free creation. Additions and changes are restructured on the page automatically

Page 15: Http:// WorkPlace Pro Utilities

Alarm Page Builder• Automatically Creates a Set of Alarm Pages

– Aggregates alarm inputs from multiple Logic Bundles

– Lays out and creates headings, captions and boolean objects for alarms

– Creates all links from Alarm Pages to inputs

– Provides full control over which alarms are included

– Creates multiple pages as necessary

• Powerful Page Layout Features– User-defined page layout properties for margins and spacing

– Ability to define all properties for generated Gx Objects: font, size, style, borders, images – any properties supported by WorkPlace Pro

– Intelligent control over column and page breaks with overrides

– Page Layout Preview mode for easy modification without importing back into WorkPlace Pro

– Ability to create multiple templates for easy reuse

Alarm Page Builder• Common Tree Based User Interface

– Shows list of Logic Bundles and Inputs in a tree format for easy viewing, renaming and reordering

Value Table Builder

Page 18: Http:// WorkPlace Pro Utilities

Value Table Builder• Scenario

– A project contains a set of condition values in each of a series of Logic Bundles– The Engineer wants to create a page showing all the value is a table format for easy

comparison and summary

• The Old Way– For each value in each Logic Bundle, the Engineer creates the appropriate Text or

Boolean object and links it back to the Input or Output value in the Logic Bundle– Tedious and time consuming– Total time required grows with the size of the system– Reordering or adding to the table requires a lot of manual restructuring of the objects on

the page

• The New Way– Using the Value Table Builder, the Engineer imports the WorkPlace Pro file and selects

the container for the Logic Bundles. – They select the Inputs and Outputs to display and the formats to use.– The Value Table Builder creates the table by selecting the correct Gx Object to use with

each value and links them to the Inputs and Outputs– Quick and simple. Easy to modify.

Page 19: Http:// WorkPlace Pro Utilities

Value Table Builder• Automatically Generates a Table of Values

– Aggregates input and output values from multiple Logic Bundles

– Builds a table of numeric, text and boolean values

– Creates all links from Value Table Pages to inputs and outputs

– Creates multiple pages as necessary

• Complete Table Layout Control– User-defined page layout properties for margins and spacing

– Ability to define all properties for generated Gx Objects: font, size, style, borders, images – any properties supported by WorkPlace Pro

– Ability to create multiple templates for easy reuse
