DON’T FORGET!!!

Happy New Year La-Miss-Tenn!

I hope everyone had a great fall semester and is ready for the spring! To all of our graduates, Congratula-tions!!! I wish you much luck and success in your future endeavors

and don't forget to serve!

So, for a bit of business. Your district board has been up to a few

things:

We had a great district board and cabinet retreat in Gulfport with Mr. Dennis and Ms. Ame on December 19! During our board meeting we hashed the details of our 50th District Convention; this is a weekend you don’t want to miss! Also, the board has purchased an A.E.D., so we continue to challenge the District to raise funds to purchase another. The club that raises the most funds will be able to select a school of its choice to install the A.E.D. Also, members of the board will be cutting their hair for Locks of Love to further

this initiative.

Your lieutenant governors have been planning great things for divi-

sional rallies. At our last meeting, all rally dates were finalized. Not only with rallies, but the board has been working with Kayla Dowling, our Conventions Director to plan a great 50th Annual Louisiana-Mississippi-West Tennessee District Convention. The programming this year is a bit different and will feature more activi-ties that YOU have been anxiously awaiting! I’ll leave the rest of DCON

for Kayla to discuss!

Please keep up with service hours! We are about halfway to meeting the goal of 4800 hours by March 31. Also, let’s get some new members this semester. We have set a goal to reach 250 members. I challenge each club to recruit 10 new members by DCON! This will increase our membership, with 80 additional members, by 32%. I’m sure that we can all reach these two goals by

District Convention!

See you at your rallies and District

Words of Wisdom

FROM DENNIS AND AME, ADMINISTRATORS

Can you believe it? Our 2008-2009 year is flying by. In just about four months we will be reviewing our results. There will be lots of "victories," and yes, some few things we may have done a little better. So we encourage all of you to really "touch all the bases" to reach your goals in the time we have left and to make this one of the very best years in LAMISSTENN Circle K history. Your District Circle K Board under the leader-ship of Governor Gavin Robert has been ex-tremely busy being sure our District is "on tar-get" with our Mission: 1. Service Hours: Our District has accumulated 2130 hours of the budgeted 4800. We have a great oppor-tunity to reach this goal. 2. Membership: This continues to be our No. 1 chal-lenge. We would ask every member to ask one more to join our great organization. As of 12/18 we had a paid membership of 146, which is well below the numbers we need to "touch the lives" of those needing the Circle K experience. With each member's involvement, and several new club possibilities, your Board has set 250 members as the absolute minimum goal for Convention 2009. 3. District Convention 2009: Kayla Downing is making a list and check-ing it twice for all the hundreds of details in-volved with planning the District Convention on March 6-8, 2009. We know YOU won't want to

miss this celebration of our years accomplish-ments. This year we will be in Natchez, Mississippi at a beautiful location on the Mississippi River. 4. Service Initiatives: Our District funded two grants for play-ground improvements. Also, plans are underway to support the Kiwanis District's plans to place AEDS in EVERY school in the LAMISSTENN DISTRICT.. 5. Leadership Development: We know our District Circle K leaders have had the opportunity to develop positive leadership skills. Part of their responsibility is to identify future leaders and to help them prepare for their time to lead. ARE YOU THE ONE? We are enjoying our time as your Adminis-trators. Although we have been close to Circle K for several years, this is our first opportunity to be involved with the overall operation of this most important member of the Kiwanis Family. We received some really good news on 12/19 that Kari Quinnelly of Ruston, Louisiana has been appointed District Administrator for Cir-cle K for the 2009-10 year. Kari, who has prior Circle K experience, is currently the Kiwanis Lt. Governor in Division 18. She will be attending a training session in Baltimore, Maryland on Janu-ary 24. She is really looking forward to her new assignment and meeting you all in Natchez in March. Thanks for all each of you do for Circle K. Our wish for each of you is for your future hap-piness and success. Remember a Kiwanis Club is waiting for you!!!

the opportunity to open gifts on Christmas had that opportunity to have something to open this

Christmas.

Finally, I would like to recog-nize Lissa McManus for her great support with Up 'til Dawn. She has always been on time for meetings, and she has always performed her tasks diligently and with a smile on her face. I am truly honored to serve alongside these fine

members.

Considering the perform-ances of the Millsaps College Circle K'ers this past semes-ter, I would have to say that I would not do this article jus-tice if I only mentioned one person. So, I will mention

five.

First of all, I want to recog-nize our secretary Anh Giang. Anh has done an amazing job as secre-tary. She has always turned in her paper work and monthly reports in on time, and she has always accom-plished the tasks of which Millsaps’ Circle K has asked her to perform. Millsaps Cir-cle K truly would not function without her. Secondly, I would like to recognize Teal Brechtel and Sharon Yoo

whose dedication to service projects throughout the year has been truly impres-sive. Sharon has always been willing to lend a hand, espe-cially in times when I thought no one would be there. Teal truly showed the makings of a club president in her activism with Shack-a-Thon and the awareness week, and I am truly grateful to her. I would also like to recognize our club president Niki Agho for a job well done. She has always been willing to help with vari-ous tasks that we as a club need to have done, and she has truly done a great job in coordinating the Angel Tree project. It truly has been a huge success, and many chil-dren who might not have had

communicate with a different crowd, try a Kiwanian on for size. You may think you won’t be able to relate to them, or they won’t under-stand what job hunting in today’s world is like. But most of the time,

you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

After all, one of our three main tenets is fellowship. Who better to be “fellowly” with than

our sponsors?

You might find that they are much more useful than those stupid counselors they make us

go see.

And if nothing else, at least

you get a free meal.

Bayou South Division

Lieutenant Governor

I know it can get really difficult to keep up with doing this kind of stuff on top of balancing a family, academics, a job, and a social life. Believe me – I have to do it too. But I think the great thing about this organization is that it can

become all of those things at once.

I know that it is hard to imagine CKI as a career tool, but picture this: You walk into a job or intern-ship interview, and you are crazy nervous. You think you’re going to say the wrong thing or not be qualified enough for the job. Your scary interviewer peruses your resume, and then asks you about your experience in Circle K. Turns out, he’s a Kiwanian. SHPLAM! New job. Feels good, huh? (Good thing you were in CKI, because you probably weren’t qualified

anyway.)

World-rocking Scenario #2: You are reluctantly dragged to a Kiwanis meeting with a fellow CKIer because they need to gain some brownie points for that schol-arship application (which is, coinci-dently, available to ALL CKI mem-bers). You are seated next to a lovely gentleman who, after chat-ting casually about the fantastic ranch dressing that comes with the awesome meal you are eating (completely gratis, by the way), tells you that he used to be a de-partment head of that oh-so-hard-to-get-into grad school you have been drooling over since you chose your major. What’s that called again? Oh yeah – NET-

WORKING!

Sweet. So, for those of you who are deathly afraid of “the real world,” and the pangs of having to

An Editor’s Note

Hey Everybody!!! I hope you are all doing well. I just want to use my space to let you know some more details about District Convention coming up in March. This year for those of you who have attended DCON before the schedule will be a little different. We will be having a larger scale service project this year and no officer train-ing during convention. Don’t forget about our House of Delegates and always anx-iously awaited PIE AUC-TION!!! And this year we

have a special guest...our International Representative Tiffany will be here with us. Kayla has worked really hard on planning our fabu-lous 50th annual convention, so please encourage all of your members and friends to make it to convention this year!!! We can’t wait to see

you there!!!
