Supplies - Notebook - Pen/pencil - Markers or colored pencils - Water Bottle Tentative Scope/Sequence Voice and Memory (4 Weeks) Unit Question: How do actors use their voice and their memories in performance? Content: This unit includes the topics of vocal anatomy, breathing, posture, diction, projection, memorization techniques Method Acting and Improvisation (5 Weeks) Unit Question: How do actors work creatively to act believably on stage? Content: Students will learn method acting skills first developed by Konstantin Stanislavsky including: Emotion Memory, Sense Memory, Physical Actions, The "Magic If", Given Circumstance, Inner Monologue, Status & Objectives, Imagination The Rehearsal Process and Staging a Play (12 weeks) Unit Question: What roles are important in staging a production? How is the rehearsal process conducted? Content: Students in the class will take on the roles of designers, stage managers, technicians, director, or actors to produce a stage performance. Major character work will be involved. Product: A One Act or Full Length Play Performance NOTE: STUDENTS MAY BE REQUIRED TO REHEARSE OUTSIDE OF THE CLASS PERIOD. The Dramatist and Society (7 weeks) Unit Question: How do dramatists reflect and challenge the societies that they are a part of? Content: Students will explore the work of an important dramatist (playwright, director, producer, or lyricist) through reading, research, and writing. Personal Project (9 weeks) Unit Questions: What interests me in the dramatic arts? Content: Students will choose an area of interest in the dramatic arts and develop a project to explore this interest. Their product may be a traditional research paper, a play script, a performance piece, a model or some other approved product. NOTE: PARTICIPATION IN AN ADDITIONAL STAGE PRODUCTION OUTSIDE OF CLASS MAY PARTIALLY FULFILL THE PERSONAL PROJECT REQUIREMENT. Assessment & Reporting Assessments and reports in this course are designed in accordance with the GSIS Assessment Policy. Evidence will be collected to assess your progress towards achievement of the learning goals throughout this course. Formative assessments will be used by the student and teacher as on-going evidence. Summative assessments will be used as a summary of the students achievement in a particular area. Progress reports will be issued that include both formative and summative assessment evidences. Grades on final student report cards will be primarily based on summative assessments. Academic progress will be updated regularly on Powerschool. The M YP Arts Assessment Criteria will be used to assess this course: Criterion A Knowledge and Understanding Maximum 8 Criterion B Application Maximum 10 Criterion C Reflection and Evaluation Maximum 8 Criterion D Personal Engagement Maximum 8 (Includes participation) Policies / Suggestions for Success Policies: Classroom policy will be discussed and posted in the classroom and on the class website.
