Mission Statement
Our Summer Strength and Conditioning Program is designed to enhance each individual student-athletes athletic potential by increasing theathletes strength, speed, agility, flexibility, conditioning, and explosiveness, which are all important components in the developing a highly-skilled high school athlete.
The primary goal of the strength and conditioning program is to minimize risk of injury by adequately preparing all athletes for the demands ofcompetition. It is well established that effective training programs improve joint stability and joint range of motion, increase muscular strengthand power, enhance movement mechanics, and increase energy system function. The end result is a heightened ability to manage the physicastress of competition.
The second goal of the strength and conditioning program is to improve the performance capabilities of each athlete and contribute to thepotential for success of each of our interscholastic sports teams. This is accomplished through structured, consistent general training thatchallenges each athlete mentally and physically. Specifically, movement-based training built on a foundation of proven principles is effectivelyperiodized to prepare each athlete for optimal performance during their competitive sports season and to maintain that level of fitness
throughout the off season.

Thoughts/Ideas for Summer Practice, 2014: Schedule only one inter-squad scrimmage (Friday, August 29) reasoning:
Tuesday, August 19 is the first day for full contact!! No team is ready for an inter-squad scrimmage afteronly four days in full pads (three of which must be single practices ONLY!!) besides, scrimmages at thehigh school level are vastly overrated Much better to take the time to install, review and refine all aspectsof your team game than rush into competition just for the sake of rushing into it (the old I gotta see what IGOT mentality listen, if you dont know what youve got after 16 practices and an intra-squadscrimmage, swapping out a practice - or two - for a too early scrimmage against another school isnt going toshowyou anything you shouldnt have already seen!!)
Schedule of resting activities each day, designed to maximize rest/recuperative/hydration opportunitieseach day while also providing optimum potential learning/earning/improving time each day (and each week)by allowing student-athletes to rest and recuperate in the air conditioned luxury of the school building
(cafeteria, library and selected classrooms) affording them shade, cool temperatures (the opportunity toshower, if possible), sustenance and hydration, as well as football based learning opportunities through filmstudy and classroom time (playbook review/testing).
Sample daily schedule for the one true two-a-day practice, 8:00 AM 7:00 PM:
8:00 10:00 AM = Morning Practice
10:00 11:00 AM = Rest period (inside air conditioned portion of school)
11:00 AM 12:00 PM = Lunch in cafeteria (can have players bring their own, and also have Boostersset up and operate a daily lunch/concession stand).
12:00 12:55 PM = Team Film Study/Playbook Review (in auditorium) use game film from previousyears and/ filmed sections of current practices to demonstrate proper alignment,
assignment, technique and execution in advance of Walk-Thru session.
12:55 1:00 PM = Team to field (practice or game) for Walk Thru session
1:00 2:00 PM = Team Walk Thru session (20 minutes per Offense, Defense, Special Teams)
2:00 3:00 PM = Rest period (inside air conditioned portion of school)
3:00 4:00 PM = Dinner in cafeteria (can have players bring their own, and also have Boostersset up and operate a daily lunch/concession stand).
4:00 4:45 PM = Team Film Study (in auditorium) use game film from previous years and/or filmedsections of current practices to demonstrate proper alignment, assignment, techniqueand execution in advance of Evening Practice session.
4:45 5:00 PM = Team to dress, then field (practice or game) for Evening Practice
5:00 7:00 PM = Evening Practice
General Notes, Thoughts & Ideas:
Have both Varsity and JV squads follow the same general practice schedule for the summer from Day 1.Have all Freshmen and Sophomores start with the JV squad, and make any underclass call-ups afterpractices on Wednesday, August 20. This gives 8 practices to make those decisions, and 8 practices untilthe scrimmage. (Ideal squad splits would be 15-25 players per class, producing a JV squad of 30-50freshmen and sophomores and a Varsity squad of 30-50 juniors and seniors without having to make anycall-ups, unless absolutely necessary for player and for team!)
