Course Description Class Objectives Students will explore theories and “best practices” of staffing and training processes. Course Description

Class Objectives

Students will explore theories and ldquobest practicesrdquo of staffing and training processes Topics covered include current trends in selection and training measurement of individual differences for decision making in hiring promoting training and dismissal evaluation of HRM processes and systems formal and informal training program design and evaluation of training effectiveness

- Compare and contrast training methods and delivery media - Design and deliver an effective training session and interact professionally with an

Grading Course grades are a function of how students do relative to each other relative to previous sections of this course and relative to the 280 GPA standard of a typical 400-level course at the College of Business and Economics I donrsquot have to provide Drsquos or Frsquos but they might be earned if there is a sufficient difference between your score and the bulk of the class

In-Class Assignments In-class assignments will be given up to 5-10 points a piece depending on the assignment These in-class assignments will be done periodically throughout the semester Students must be in class to get credit No make-ups for missed in-class assignments So itrsquos best to attend each class

Quizzes Quizzes will be completed via blackboard with a specified time limit Each quiz will be 10-15 questions with a combination of multiple choice and TrueFalse questions Quizzes will need to be completed by Sundayrsquos at midnight Quiz questions will come from both in-class lecture and textbook questions So itrsquos best to attend each class

Exams Mid-Term Exam Completed via blackboard a total of 30 questions that will be a mixture of multiple choice and TrueFalse questions 2 points each (mixture of in-class lecture textbook and prior quizzes)

Final Exam Completed via blackboard a total of 60 questions that will be a mixture of multiple choice and TrueFalse questions 2 points each (mixture of in-class lecture questions textbook and all prior quizzes)

Makeup Exams All students are expected to take exams on the dates scheduled If a student does not take the exam on the scheduled time for any non-BSU sponsored activity he or she must take a makeup before the next class and before the scheduled regular exam date The makeup is harder and points will be deducted Please contact me as soon as possible to make arrangements If you contact me after the regular scheduled exam you will not be allowed to makeup that exam and will receive 0 points for that exam

Project Students will be divided into groups Once in groups students will then need to decide what HR related project to pursue This choice is up to the group so make it interesting and fun Groups need to submit their project idea for approval on or before the March 13 2017 class (via email with all group member names) The project must be related to course material covered in class (ie creating a training process developing Key Performance Indicators (KPIrsquos) creating a recruitment process to obtain top talent etc) Each group will be required to give a presentation on their project to the class towards the end of the semester Each group member must participate in the presentation to receive points
