Habitat

• Native to the central parts of South America: Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay

• Found in tropical rainforests, evergreen forests, and deciduous forests bordered by the savanna.

• Spend most of their time in the trees with a wide variety of plant life

Diet

• Eat primarily leaves which provide for their nutritional and water needs

• occasionally will eat fruits, buds, moss, seeds, and flowers to supplement their diet

Predators

• Predators are jaguars and harpy eagles

Prey

• Doesn’t have much prey because it feasts on plants and flowers.

Distinctive characteristics

• Male monkeys have large throats and specialized shell like vocal chambers that help turn up the volume on their call

• Their call send a message to other monkeys: this territory is already occupied by a troop (their group name).

• Their call can travel 3 miles through a dense forest

• Its scientific name is Alouatta

• Fifteen species are currently recognized
