How to view lists of new LRC materials and theme materials and book
them directly from the lists
From the school district home page (www.sd71.bc.ca) click on Destiny on the blue horizontal
toolbar just under the glacier.
The Destiny Welcome to Sch Dist 71 Courtenay screen appears:
Click on your school from the list. For this example, I clicked on Airport Elementary School.
The following screen appears:
You need to login to your school. Click on the word Login that is located on the top right-hand
side of the screen. The following screen appears:
J. Pearce/ Nov. 2014
Log in using the same username and password as your school district e-mail.
The Destiny home page for your school will appear. (You will note that on the bottom of the
screen you have access to the district research databases. If you are at your school, you will
not need to login to use them. If you are at home, however, you will need to login. Clicking
on Passwords lets you see what they are for your particular school.)
To see the lists of materials available at the LRC, and be able to book them directly from the
screens that appear, click on the Catalog tab to the right of the green Home tab on the top of
the screen. The following screen will appear:
Click on Resource Lists. It is located on the left-hand side of the screen. The following
screen will appear with any lists that you have made for yourself.
Click on Public Lists, which is located in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. The
following screen will appear:

Notice the “Owner(s)” column. The lists that Deb Lovett, LRC Library Clerk, creates state her
name as the owner. The lists that Deb and the District CSTs and Elementary Teacher
Librarian create together are entitled “LRC Staff.” Secondary Teacher-Librarians have access
to publish their lists across the district (i.e., the lists you see posted here by Ken Errico at
Vanier and Tracy Richards at Isfeld.) Randi Baldwin’s list of Airport’s resources on insects
appears here because I logged into Airport School as an Airport teacher. If you logged into a
school other than Airport, you will not see Randi’s list, as it was made public to her school site
only. When you log into your school you will only see the resource lists that your library clerk
has made public to your school.
Click on a list, such as LRC new resources – Nov 2014. The following screen will appear:
Notice that there are 2 screens of new materials for November. Only the first screen is
displayed. You need to scroll down to see all of the materials listed. To see the second
screen of materials, click on the “2” beside “Show All” in the upper right-hand corner.

When you see an item that you wish to learn more about, such as the “Birch outdoor ramp” on
the first screen, click on it. The following screen will appear:
If you wish to book the Birch outdoor ramp kit, click on Book It! in the upper right-hand corner
of the screen. The following screen will appear:
Click on the arrows (<< month >>) in the calendar beside the month displayed to select the
month you want the kit for. Clicking on the arrows allows you to see when the kit is booked
(red) and when it is available. In the screen shot below I selected February as the month I
wanted the kit for.
Click on the exact date you would like the kit. I clicked on the 2nd of February in the calendar
and the date was automatically filled in on the left-hand side of the screen in the “From” and
“To” section.

Notice the green tool bar across the top of the screen just under the Catalog tab. It shows
you the steps you took to get where you are currently. If you wish to search for and book
another item in the same resource list, click on “LRC New resources – Nov 2014.” If you wish
to search all of the LRC public lists, then click on “View Lists.” In this example I clicked on
“View Lists”:
Note that you can also click on the tabs on the left-hand side of the screen to do a Library
Search. Most of the elementary libraries have Library Search set as the default screen for
searches. Other options in this list include Destiny Quest and Universal Search. Destiny
Quest provides a different looking search screen for searches, which is popular at the
secondary level and provides a few more bells and whistles. Universal Search is the latest
way of searching that came with our recent Destiny upgrade. There are a few bugs to work
out with this way of searching, however, so we do not recommend it at this point in time.
Follet Shelf gives you access to our e-book collection, made available to every school
(teachers and students) in the district. Click on it and explore. I will put together an updated
step-by-step instruction sheet for e-books and hope to have it out shortly.
If you have any questions, your school library clerk would be happy to help you. You are also
welcome to contact me.
