“I LOST MY JOB BUT NOT MY PERSPECTIVE” – October 30,2014- the unknown guy
Yesterday was one of the most emotional days of my life.I lost my job as my position was eliminated, and I darn near burnt the orange cinnamon rolls I baked! (Props to Pillsbury for making a bad day better though, because damn those rolls were tasty!).
My company announced changes within the structures of several groups in the company. My group was affected, and while I have natural concerns for my own future, I am nowfaced with saying goodbye to some talented friends and co-workers. It has been a pleasure to work beside, and learn from, these people. They are smart, dedicated and creative…not to mention a barrel of laughs!
Duane Forrester is Microsoft head of spam. His position was eliminated in October last year and he took to explaining what happened on his personal blog. Supports came in when a leadingpublication carried the news. Few months later, he was reabsorbed into the same position at Microsoft while his Google counterpart Matt Cutts remains on a “self proclaimed vacation”
Here is an excerpt of an update to his post two months later
“When I last posted, I’d just faced a turning point in my career. I was faced with one of the toughest moments of reality life can bring you – the loss of your job. I knew we’d be OK, that we’d weather the storm, but I wasn’t prepared for the next two months”.
“After my blog post went live, a few hours later, I had friends telling me not only about job opportunities, but that news about my departure was trending on Twitter! WOW!”
“I got calls from folks, emails, messages on Facebook, tweets. I was overwhelmed, honestly. I was blown away by the outpouring of support, and had more than one misty-eyed moment where I realized relationships I had with people were stronger than I ever thought they were.
