TRANSCRIPT
With so little time available and so much to read, it becomes difficult for the students to stay focussed during exam preparation.
Tips:
1. Avoid organising a study group with friends.2. Before you start studying, prep your study materials3. Turn off and put away your devices4. Get a good night’s sleep5. Organize your work/play time in a calendar6. Schedule breaks into your study session
1. Avoid organising a study group with friends. If you want to make the most efficient use of your time,
study group is definitely not a wise move. It might be fun, but you can utilize your time efficiently unless everyone in the group is committed to save the chit-chat session until after the study session. Therefore, the wise move is to hit the books for competitive exams alone.
2. Before you start studying, prep your study materials
Starting from the print out notes to filling ink in pen, get everything ready before you start your study session. Ideally, everything should be prepped at least a few hours before you sit down to study as it will save a good amount of your time.
3. Turn off and put away your devices
Devices here include TV, tablet, phone and also computer if you don’t need it. Keeping away these devices will help you focus better as you will not be tempted to check your texts and social media updates from time to time.
4. Get a good night’s sleep
You might be thinking that burning the midnight oil will help you crack the competitive exam. However, this is not actually true because according to several studies, not having enough sleep will reduce your retention ability.
5. Schedule breaks into your study session
One of the reasons to why you’re facing trouble focusing might be that you’re due for a brain break. To study better, you need to schedule break into your study sessions. It can actually increase your productivity if you take breaks every 50 minutes or so. But remember, the breaks should not be more than 10 minutes, lest you’ll be distracted.
