Go to Voicethread.com and sign in (if you have an account.

Otherwise, click “Register now” and create a demo account, which allows you to make 5 free VoiceThreads.

Click on the “webcam” icon to make a video comment.

Click on the “mic” icon to make an audio comment.

The first step to making a new VoiceThread is click on the “+ Add Media” button, which will reveal an options menu. To upload a file, such as a map or a PowerPoint, click on “My Computer” from the menu and then select a file. To make a webcam video, click on “Webcam Video” from the menu. You will then be prompted to start a video recording. See following page, if VoiceThread asks for permission to access webcam.

See below for an example of a map that was uploaded to VoiceThread. Next step is to add a comment to the VoiceThread slide. To add a comment, click on the “+” button located in the middle of the slide, which will reveal different comment options.

Click “+ Add Media” to reveal the menu.

Click “My Computer” to upload file.

Click “Webcam Video” to make a video recording.

Click “+” icon at bottom of VoiceThread slide to reveal comment options.

Click on “ABC” to make a text comment.

If prompted, make sure “Allow” and “Remember” are checked.

See below for an example of making a video comment on a VoiceThread slide. Before the recording starts, you may be asked to give VoiceThread permission to access your webcam and mic. If prompted, make sure “Allow” and “Remember” are checked. You will then see a countdown timer before the recording starts.

Once the recording starts, you should see a preview of the webcam on the left. While recording, you can use your mouse to draw and annotate on the screen. Click on the pen to change colors. Click on the “+” or “-” to zoom in or out. When finished, click on “Stop recording”.

From here, you can decide to add a new slide and repeat the all the previous instructions. Or, if your VoiceThread is done, you can click on “Share” and get the link to put in Blackboard. In both cases, you first click on the icon located in the upper left corner of the VoiceThread and a list of menu options will appear.

After you stop the recording, you will see a preview of your video comment. You can either click “Cancel” and decide to re-record a new comment, or you can click “Save” and the video will be added as a comment to the VoiceThread slide.

Click on “Share” to get link to put in Blackboard (see next page for more info).

Click on “Edit” to add more slides. After clicking edit, click on “Add media” to make new slide - repeat steps above.

To keep video click “Save”.To redo video, click

Here is how to get link to VoiceThread to add to Blackboard. Click on three lines icon and then click on share from menu.

On the following screen, click on the “Basic” tab (you will initially be on the “secure” tab. Then, click on “Copy Link”. Make sure both “view” and “comment” are checked. VoiceThread will confirm that you have copied the link. Then, navigate to Blackboard. See next page for info on how to add link in Blackboard.

Click on “Share” to get link to put in Blackboard.

Click on “three lines” icon to reveal menu.

Click on “Basic” tab.

Click on “Copy Link”.

Make sure “view” and “comment” are checked.

After going to your course in Blackboard, go to where you want to paste the link, such as in a discussion forum or as a content item. Then, in the text editor box, paste the link by pressing “ control v ”, or right clicking on your mouse and clicking “paste”. Or, you may use a different way to paste.

Paste the link copied from VoiceThread.

Next, you want to make the link clickable in Blackboard. First, select and highlight the link by holding down mouse button and scrolling over link. Then, click on the “add link” button from the text editor tools.

You can tell if the link is now clickable because the font color will change and it will be underlined. Final step is to give the Blackboard item a title, add any additional text (optional), and then click “Submit” to complete the process. To test that link is working, click on the link in newly created item and it should bring you to the VoiceThread.
