Step 1: Choose a Niche

The first thing you want to do is pick a topic upon which you will eventually base your website or blog around.

Ways to Get Ideas of Niches:

Be sure to write down your answers to the questions below. * What hobbies and extra-curricular activities do you enjoy?* What are your interests? * Is your everyday career something that you can use to your advantage online?

It is very important that you choose something that is of interest to you, because maintaining a website on a topic that is of little interest to you is not easy. It is, however, different if you have an interest in a particular niche, but not a lot of knowledge on the topic (yet). You can always learn as you go along.

In my case, I have an interest in the Stress niche. However, before deciding that this is a good, profitable niche, I have to do my research first.

So, to see if stress is an area that others are interested in too, I check out the above places. The photo below shows you what I find at Dummies.com – a book about Stress Management. Okay, so that's good.

Pay particular attention to what kinds of books and magazine topics are being published. After all, these particular publishers would have done their research and know what people are interested in.

You also want to determine what kind of information others are seeking, in particular whether it is information that they would be willing to pay for. One of the most common examples is golfers who are always willing to improve their skills at the game. In other words, you are looking for niches that have hungry, desperate buyers.

Another idea of a place to get ideas of niches, is to take a look at Flippa, the website marketplace. When looking at the Flippa website, pay special attention to what kinds of sites are selling. In fact, Flippa is one way to avoid having to create a site from scratch on your own, but you need to understand what is being advertised before you buy.

Step 2: Ensure That There Are Enough Topics to Write

About

Good rankings in search engines are based a lot on the quality and content of your site. If you are creating a niche blog, it is not enough to set up a few pages, and then hope it magically increases in rankings and the money starts rolling in.

Before deciding on your niche topic, you want to ensure that you have topics to write on. You also want to discover what the keywords are that people are searching for in Google. To do this, you can use the free Google Keyword Tool here:

Once there, enter in a search term in the top box. I start with a very general search term, such as "Stress" in this example.

Then I check off the Broad, Exact, and Phrase match categories (found on the left). I am most interested in Exact match searches, but I like to do a comparison. I like to use Broad searches to get ideas of niche topics, but then use the Exact searches for my keywords.

Here are the definitions:

Broad Match: The keyword is any order. There may be additional words found at the start, middle, and/or end of the keyword. In the Google Keyword tool, it is the keywords you see that have no brackets around them.

Exact Match: Includes only your exact keyword that you have entered. Keywords that are exact match have the [square brackets around them like this].

Phrase Match: Your keyword will be in the correct order, but have extra words in front of the keyword or behind it. Keywords are located in "quotation marks."

You want to get an idea if there are many keyword topics that you can talk about on your site. Looking up the general topic of Stress, gives you a number of different topics that people are searching for. Also, be sure to think of all topics related to stress that you could write on. For example, do searches for finance or financial stress, time management, relaxation – all things related to stress and managing it, but may not have the word "stress" in it. These are all other topics that you could write about on a website dedicated to stress.

The free Google Keyword Tool also shows you how many people are searching for the topics. I focus on Global Monthly Searches, and want to see that at least one thousand people are searching for that term every month.

Now, that you have determined that the topic, stress, has a number of different areas that you can write about, you need to move on to the next step.

Step 3: Find Affiliate Products To Promote

So far, we have discussed two keys to choosing a good niche. They are:

* Finding one that you have an interest in* Finding one that you can write a lot about

The last key is to find one this is profitable.

In order to do that, it helps to have affiliate products that you can promote. Affiliate products are products that you have not created, but instead have been created by someone else. When you promote affiliate products, you earn a commission when someone purchases through your affiliate link. Of course, you can always create your own products later (and this is recommended), but when starting out, it is simplest to find products that are ready for you to promote.

Places I like to look for ideas include:

Clickbank – Here, you will find mainly digital products. Do a search in the "Marketplace" -> "Promote Products." You don't necessarily have to promote the products with the most sales and highest popularity. You are just looking for products with some sales, and at this step, want to ensure that there are products from which you will be able to profit. If you look up "Stress" in the Clickbank Marketplace, you come up with several related affiliate products that you can promote. Shown next are two potential products to consider.

Amazon – When I do a search of "Stress" on Amazon, I find all sorts of products that come up – books, B vitamins, biofeedback machines, acupressure mats, and so on. What is great about Amazon is that even if the customer purchases something unrelated to what you recommend, you still get the affiliate commission for leading that customer to their site.

In this case, my attention is drawn to the "StressEraser Portable Biofeedback Device."

This is because Biofeedback is known to be a good method of reducing stress in one's life. It is also helpful for people who suffer from migraines, which can be triggered by stress.

I am looking for a product that has a number of good reviews and descriptions of what the product has done for those customers. In this case, it has seventy-one reviews (thirty-seven 5-star reviews, and twelve 4-star reviews at the time I'm writing this). It also pays a much better commission than promoting a book found on Amazon.

Here is another product (below) I find on Amazon that has a high number of reviews and ratings. It is the "Heavenly Acupressure Mat." Stress is one of the reasons users say they use this mat, in addition to insomnia, migraines, and back pain (which are all conditions that often accompany stress).

One other product (picture is below) I find is the "Body Back Buddy." With 312 reviews, and higher than a 4-star average rating, this product is obviously a winner. The angle I would take with this product is that when you are stressed, your muscles become tense. The Body Back Buddy is a great product to promote relaxation in your muscles, which in turn will reduce other stress-related ailments such as difficulty sleeping and migraines.

Another way to look for affiliate products to promote is to do a Google search. For example, you can do a search for "Stress" affiliate programs. Try it, and you will see that you get several listings of different products that you could promote.

There are many other affiliate programs such as ShareASale, Commission Junction, Market Health, Ebay, and more.

These are all affiliate programs that you can apply to later, but for now, all you want to know is that there are products that you can promote.

Now, that you know that there are many types of products to promote in the stress niche, it is time to move on to the next step. But before we do that, I want to let you in on a

secret! In case you haven't already figured it out, the Stress niche is a profitable niche. There are so many different topics you can write about when it comes to stress. You can tackle the emotional, physical, financial, workplace, home-related stresses. You can also focus on time-management and organizational skills. Just use your imagination!

The Stress niche alone receives more than 9 million global searches every month!

And don't forget that stress is not just limited to adults. Children are experiencing more and more stress too!

Now, let's do the next step!

Step 4: Registering a Domain Name

My favorite domain registrar is Namecheap.

Here's a few reasons why:

The first step in registering a domain name is choosing a name. You want to pick:

• A name that describes your niche, but is not so narrow that you limit what you can write on.

• Something that is easy for others to remember

• A domain that contains about 3-4words (this is just a guide). If it gets to be more than 4 words, it gets too long.

• A name that shows the world that you are the go-to domain for your niche.

• A name that does not sound like you are trying to sell.

A couple examples of domain names could be LivingStressFree or ReduceMyStress. To find out what's available, use the "Domain Search" located on the Namecheap

website and plug in different domain names until you find something that you like and is available.

I recommend you choose a .com, .net, or .org extension, if at all possible. I have done well with these extensions.

A word of caution: Stay away from domain names that include trademarked names or products in them.

Once you choose your domain name, use the Namecheap cart to purchase it. After you have purchased your new domain, you need to do the next step.

Step 5: Host Your Domain

I have always used Hostgator for my hosting. They also offer 24/7 online chat support, and I've never had problems with downtime. The other reason I like Hostgator is because when I choose the "Baby Plan," I can have a primary domain and then a number of "add-on domains" (unlimited) under my primary domain name, and only pay one fee to host all my domain names. In other words, you do not have to pay separate hosting for all of your domain names (assuming you will have more than one domain in the future).

Click "Order Now" for the Baby Plan.

You want to fill in the area where it says, "I currently have a domain name." This is where you enter in the domain name that you purchased at Namecheap.

Then follow the remaining, self-explanatory steps to complete your purchase.

Once your purchase is complete, you will get an email from Hostgator. Be sure to store

it securely, as it will contain important information that you will need in the future.

Once you get this email, you need to log back into your Namecheap account. There, you need to point the nameservers to Hostgator (you should find the Hostgator nameservers information in your email you just got from Hostgator).

Choose "Specify Custom DNS Servers ( Your own DNS Servers )." Enter in the nameservers. They should be nsXXXX.hostgator.com and nsXXXX.hostgator.com Just replace the XXXX with the numbers you received in your email.

Once you have completed this, it may take up to 24 hours before your nameservers point to Hostgator. Usually, it does not take this long though.

Important to Remember: If you run into any problems at any of the steps above,

use the online chat available through Namecheap or Hostgator.

Once this is all complete, you are ready for the next step!

Step 6: Set Up Wordpress

Wordpress is one of the best, free software programs that you can use. It is so easy to use, and can be used for different types of sites from blogs to regular websites. It just all depends on how you set it up, and what themes you use.

When you are just starting, it is easiest to install Wordpress through your cPanel of Hostgator (using Fantastico). Check your Hostgator email again for details of how to

login. You can also get to your Hostgator cPanel by going to: http://www.yourdomainname.com/cpanel

If you are fairly skilled technically, then you may choose to install Wordpress manually. You can find instructions here. If, however, you are less technical, Wordpress can still be installed through your cPanel using Fantastico Deluxe (see picture below).

If you do it like this (without the "Install in Directory"), you will later login to your Wordpress dashboard using http://www.yourdomainname.com/wp-admin

Step 7: Select a Theme For Your Wordpress Site

Now that you have all this done, try visiting your site at http://www.yourdomainname.com You will see that you have been provided with a default Wordpress theme. In order to create an attractive website that people want to visit and find easy to navigate, you will want to choose a different theme.

You will want to login to: http://www.yourdomainname.com/wp-admin in order to change your theme. To find out how to change the theme , you can also learn this from videos on YouTube. The creator of one of the above videos also directs you to some free themes that you can use that are more attractive. I have never used those themes, so I cannot comment on them. Most of the time, I have chosen to use paid themes, as I know they are updated regularly. I personally like Woo Themes, where you can find a number of different designs. I also like the StudioPress Themes .

Step 8: Set Up The Inside of Your Wordpress Admin

Step 9: Add Content to Your Site

Earlier I mentioned how content is key to your site. If you want to grow your site and your following, you need to add pages and/or posts to your site that are filled with information that will keep your visitors coming back.

You can either create the content yourself, you can hire someone (called a ghostwriter), you can purchase PLR (Private Label Rights), or you can do a combination of all. Next, we'll discuss each one a little bit more.

Option 1: Write the Content Yourself

First, if you choose to create the content yourself, you can bet it will take up a lot of your time. You probably will also have to research the topics before you even begin writing. The benefit, however, of doing everything yourself is that it will cost you very little. So if you have a lot of extra time on your hands and enjoy writing, this may be the way to go.

Option 2: Hire a Ghostwriter

The obvious benefit of hiring a ghostwriter is that you will not have to spend time writing your own content, especially if you don’t particularly like writing or you are not good at it. You also rely on the ghostwriter to do the research for you before he writes your content.

The main disadvantage of hiring ghostwriters is the cost. It is difficult to find a really good writer at an affordable price. Even if you find someone who is willing to write 10 articles for you at $5 per 400 words, it's still $50 out of your pocket. This may be difficult if you are just starting out or on a budget. Although you may be fortunate enough to find someone at this low price, you may get low-quality work back. That is not to say that everyone who charges $5 per 400 words does poor-quality work. In fact, there are many high-quality writers who start out at this price, but start charging more as their clientele and orders increase. You can hire ghostwriters who charge $30 for one page of writing! That could sure add up.

So if you do choose to hire a ghostwriter, you will also have to spend time finding someone. You are also not likely to find someone that meets your expectations or style of writing right off the bat either, so just be prepared for this.

Option 3: Purchase PLR (Private Label Rights)

PLR is done-for-you content that you can purchase, edit, and use as your own. Often, PLR packages are only sold to a limited number of customers. PLR is meant for your own personal use on your website, blogs, as products you create for your customers, to create apps, and so much more.

Basically, PLR offers you a shortcut. The research has all been done for you, and it has all been written up. You can use it as is, or you can add some of your own personality and flair into it. You may want to use PLR from a number of PLR vendors, and put it all together to create a unique report that you give away or sell to your customers. You can also use PLR to pre-load your Aweber autoresponder, which is important for list building. The sky's the limit! Just be creative!

Purchasing PLR is much less expensive than hiring a ghostwriter. And, if you purchase PLR from quality PLR providers, you always know that the work you are getting will meet your expectations.
