How to add a Feedback activityA Feedback activity in LMS allows you to poll students on a particular topic or get feedback on any aspect of the subject including the delivery and quality of materials.

Outline:

The purpose of this guide is to show users how to create Feedback activity.

What will the guide cover?

The guide will cover how to create a Feedback activity, add questions and view and analyse student responses.

How long will this take?

This activity should take approximately 30 minutes to complete depending on how many questions are being added.

Adding a Feedback activity

Navigate to the subject 1. On the top right of the page, select Turn editing on 2. Navigate to the week / section you would like to add a folder and select

Add an activity or resource.

1. Select Feedback 2. Then select Add at the bottom of the menu.

Complete the Feedback Settings

Add a name1. Add the desired Name to the Feedback activity and description

(if required – the description will appear on the front page)2. Add a Description if required. You can select the checkbox to

display this on the front page of the LMS page. 3. You can adjust the availability of the Feedback activity by

adjusting the dates if required.4. You can also select to make the Feedback activity anonymous

or have the user’s name displayed.5. You may also want to enable notifications or make a note to

check on these at the end of the Feedback period.

Select analysis settings1. You can also select whether an analysis

page is shown to users after submission.

Common Module SettingsCommon module settings control whether content in visible to students. You can also add a group restriction in this setting. For more information on restricting access for groups see groups and groupings guide.

Restrict AccessRestrict access allow you to control access based on date, grade, users and activity completion.

Activity CompletionIf Activity completion has been activated in your subject settings, it will appear in your activity or resource settings. You can elect for a student to mark the activity as completed or for graded items automatically indicate completion to students. Activity completion is indicated by a check box to the right of the activity on the home page.

Adding questions Types of questions

Multiple choiceCreates a multiple choice question. The question can be set for students to be able to do one of the following:

Multiple choice (rated)Creates a multiple choice question. Students can chose a single answer. Each answer has a number associated with it so that reports can show numeric averages.

Short text answerCreates a question with a text box for a typed answer. This is best used for text responses that are expected to be less than about 50 characters.

Longer text answerCreates a question with a text box for a typed answer. You can adjust the size of the text box on the screen. The text box itself accepts a very large amount of text.

Numeric answerCreates a question with a text box for a typed answer. The student can only enter numbers in the answer text box. You can specify an acceptable range for the answer, e.g. 1-100.

Select Feedback Activity1. Once you have finished saving navigate

back to the Feedback activity then select the link.

2. Then select the Questions link in the Administration block. 3. A drop down menu will appear, then select the Edit Questions link.

Select question type1. From the dropdown menu select from a range of question and formatting types.

Once selected follow the prompts and save your question and then add additional questions.For more information on question types see: Building Feedback (Moodle Docs).

Student view

Answer the questions1. Students will see a link when they view the Feedback activity to

Answer the questions.

Submit answers

They will then be taken to a page where the questions appear and will need to select Submit your answers when finished.

Once students have completed the Feedback activity they will get a notification that their answers have been saved.

Analysis

Show responsesOnce you have received notifications or you reach the end of the Feedback period you can access the link in the LMS and look at the Analysis and Responses.

1. First check to see how many response.2. Then select the Analysis tab for a snapshot.3. You can then look at the Show responses tab for a list

of responses.
