Workshop Overview

“If you are suffering from information overload (or are a technophobe) and would like to find out about how we used E-Guides to introduce the benefits of using ICT (Information Communication Technology), including a painless way to maintain and produce your CPD (Continuous Professional Development) records, to Third Sector learning providers in Suffolk, then join us for this friendly workshop in plain English.”

The Issues

Having provided a significant amount of ICT to support learning delivery we needed to provide training to ensure that the equipment is used to its full extent

We were aware, both from our own research and from our E-Guides training, that a significant number of ‘teachers’ are resistant to using ICT

As an ‘IfL Connect’ partner we needed to give our members guidance on completing their CPD

Our Action Plan

Attend IfL briefings on REfLECT Load data onto REfLECT

to use as a case study Produce presentation on interactive

whiteboard, student voting systemand REfLECT

Deliver presentation at 12 venuesacross Suffolk

The Challenges

The IfL briefing on REfLECT was not in a very logical order and was quite ‘functional’ so we had to carry out a lot of work to make it more user friendly

Some of the venues for the presentation did not have internet access so the presentation had to be wholly in PowerPoint

Not everyone would be able to attend the presentations so we had to make the information easily accessible

How did we change the briefing? We changed the IfL briefing content to:

make it more personal highlight the personal benefits of using

REfLECT highlight the personal benefits of using

REfLECT We used a live REfLECT account containing real

data to give a more meaningful demonstration Where possible we demonstrated the live system,

to supplement the presentation

ICT for CBT

Our interactive whiteboard training highlighted not only the advantages to learners, but also the advantages to teachers in providing easy data to include in their CBT

Highlighting the data storage and sharing functions of REfLECT stimulated people to use the system as a cost-effective VLE

Page 31: How ICT can make CPD painless Simon Waldron Information Officer

Did it work?

By ‘selling’ CBT and REfLECT on the back of ICT training made it more ‘joined up’ and acceptable

Even our most committed technophobes became enthusiastic

Only time will tell!
