2004 ACT Results Louisiana is one of eight states with greater then

75% of its high school graduates taking the ACT. The percent of Louisiana graduates taking the ACT

increased from 80% in 2003 to 87% in 2004. 2004 yielded an ACT Composite Score average of

19.4* with over 36,000 students taking the test. In Comparison to other states, Louisiana’s

average was ranked fourteenth among SREB States (just above South Carolina and below Georgia).

Proportionally, there were more students (15%) from poor families taking the test in our state than nationally (8%). * Public Schools Only

Louisiana College Readiness

In Fall 2003, 47% of Louisiana public school graduates enrolled as First-Time-Freshmen (FTF). UP 5% from the prior year.

36% of those FTF enrolled in at least one developmental course. (Highest in Math -31%).

Of the 2003 FTF, 62% were White, 34% Black.

Between Fall of 2002 and Fall of 2003 the college going rates INCREASED in 49 Louisiana public school districts.

MERIT BASED AWARDS

For 2004-2005 school year, over 38,000 students received TOPS awards.

This year, the cost to continue current awards and disperse new awards is $116 million dollars ($55 million of it being spent on new awards).
