Secretary will advise Rotary Club that a few Heritage Vehicles from our club will go on display on the occasion of the Men’s Health Pitstop Day at Cootamundra Medical Centre, Saturday 17 August. Paul Ballard moved / seconded John Simpfendorfer – That an appreciation letter be sent to member Dean Hefren for opening the TAFE Workshop in Alan’s absence. Carried. Paul Ballard reported on his organising a Club Trip to Hill End in November, adding that you can join in for just part of the tour if you wish. He needs to know starters early, like now, so that he can negotiate accommodation. Barry Gavin reminded members of the Display we will do at the High School Lunch Time. Fri. 23 Aug. Lynn pointed out the need for the chauffers at the Deb Ball to dress presentably. Graham Angel recommended Facebook as a possible publicity outlet for our club. Ken Frost displayed a cylindrical container that could be used in Heritage Vehicles to safely store registration and permission papers and even a windscreen banner. John Speechley pointed out how easy it is to be of service in the Bradman’s Birthplace Museum. Paul Andreatta suggested nominating our club for a Cootamundra Community Award next July. PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Hello All.
Thanks to Paul Andreatta for taking the reins for the last meeting and to Sue McCarthy for acting as
treasurer in our absence.
Thanks also to the members that attended at short notice, the Medical Centre display. And to those who
chauffeured the Debutantes to the Ball. This is good publicity for the club and all taking part must be
congratulated. A good turnout for each event I believe. See Past Events.
The Swap is coming along BUT more helpers will make it easier on the day. A copy of the roster is
below . . so please check your time and gate or job. I think more helpers for the parking are needed on
Sunday morning so if you can just give half an hour or so here or on one of the gates it will give
someone else a bit of a blow.
Do not forget the Working Bees on the Friday and Saturday before. Again even a little time given is of
great help to the others.
On the subject of the Swap, Lynn and Barry Gavin have put a lot of effort into the Swap over the years
and would like a rest. Please consider taking on this role even if only for one year. Things are all set up
so the main things are to take bookings and act as chair for the committee. The Gavins will give any
assistance needed to get you started.
Welcome to Neville and Marj Cave. I hope you enjoy your time with us. Past member Keith Berryman
has also been accepted back into our club and is very welcome as well.
Look to the back page to plan which events you may be able to attend.
The High School display, the Bradman display, THE SWAP, the Wattle Time Parade, THE SWAP, the
Murrumburrah- Harden Show, the pizza night, the meeting at Gunning with the Moss Vale Club and the
Hillston Sesqui-Centenary Parade just to name a few. Oh did I mention the SWAP yet?
I do not know if there is a record for the most members and cars at an event but if there is I would like
to see it broken while I am in the chair. If there is no record then we need to make one. ( If Holden can
do it then we can too. ). Also I would like to meet all of the members before my time is over.
Since we returned from Southern China (40 degrees and 95% humidity) I have not been able to get
warm. If the members will chip in for the airfare I will go back again.
Yours in shivering,
Tim.

CLUB CAPTAIN’S REPORT
Q1. In which year was television first broadcast in Australia?
Q2. Name Australia’s largest freshwater fish.
OTHER THINGS MAY CHANGE US; BUT WE START, AND END, WITH FAMILY.
WRITE IT ON YOUR HEART - THAT EVERY DAY IS THE BEST DAY IN THE YEAR.
At our June Meeting it was asked where do you go for a good panel beater/spray painter? Well, don’t
forget – we have a quality one in : JOHN MURRAY. He owns JMC in Hovell Street, Cootamundra.
A number of members have used him and are quite happy with the finished work.
When you read this newsletter – I will be lapping up beautiful sunshine in 33 degrees heat and hopefully
catching a Burramundi or two.
See you all at the Swap,
JOHN SIMP.

SECRETARY’S REPORT
Correspondence for the September Meeting:
RE EXPORTING A HERITAGE VEHICLE OUT OF AUSTRALIA The Bush Council and The City Council and Motorlife Museum
inform us that there is a process to be followed by the government where consent to export a
heritage car must be considered.
But this mostly is not followed by the policing authorities.
Therefore, a representative of the above-mentioned clubs ought to be included on the board that
considers each export application.
At the September Meeting – your Secretary will read out the above letter which asks you to sign
a Petition.
The Petition draws to the attention of the Parliament of Australia that the current legislation for
the Protection of Movable Cultural Heritage needs an amendment that nominates representation
by the above Councils.
The Petition will be at the front door of our Meeting. Sign it if you wish.
We ought to debate it?
The Petition:
We ask the House of Representatives to consider amending the Protection of Movable
Heritage Act relating to antique motor vehicles, in conjunction with nominated
representatives of the Council of Heritage Motor Clubs and the Council of Motor Clubs,
and the Australian Motorlife Museum, with the goal of preserving representative historic
motor vehicles in Australia for future generations of Australians.

It was also announced that : Dec. 1983 - A Milestone: Introduction of Club Concessional Registration for vehicles when
they reach 30 years of age. Previously club plates were only available up to 1947.
Some people (in other clubs I hasten to say) voiced their disapproval of the 30 year concession scheme. One of their
arguments was that FJ Holdens would soon be taking advantage of club plates. Old Holdens were viewed as “common” or
“Hoon cars”.
Opinions soon changed with the passage of time.

The Centenary of Canberra Rally -- 19 & 20 October, 2013 - Jervis Bay to Canberra is run by the National

Ave to Old Parliament House for a static display of vehicles from the motoring pioneer days.

PAST EVENTS
Sunday 11 August : Visit a collection of Military Vehicles and Bulldozers at TEMORA There was a good roll-up of 15 classic cars for the owners to take advantage of Ian Styles opening his shed for a viewing this
day. Ian was asked by the Riverina VW Club if he would open up his shed for a visit. The word spread to Cootamundra car
clubs to take advantage of this opportunity also.
We were amazed at the amount of work that Ian Styles has put into collecting and restoring such heavy machinery. Each
vehicle in this collection would have a history that could fill a book, as most would have been in WW2 war zones .
Club cars that took the journey to Temora on this day:
My 1958 VW Ted Strachan’s 1972 GALANT
Don Manwaring’s 1974 TRIUMPH 2500 Peter Kelly’s 1975 TRIUMPH Stag
Barry Gavin’s 1977 TORANA Ken Harrison’s 1965 WOLSELEY 24/80
Chris Imrie’s 1972 VW Kombi Denis Shepherd’s 1967 MORGAN.
Ray Douglas (and family) came modern because Ray just had to see this Historic collection.
There were other cars, too, members of Restorers Car Club at Ardlethan and the VW club.
We gathered for morning tea at the Statue of Paleface Adios before driving in convoy to Ian Styles’ property.
