Opening/Welcome Comments

Welcome! My name is _________ and I am a faculty member here at the UNC School of
Government. I am very pleased to be here with you today in this webinar designed to help
local governments implement ________ (the new statewide smoking law). This webinar is the
result of a collaboration between the UNC School of Government and the _________(North
Carolina Department of Health and Human Services). We would like to specifically thank
______ (North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services) for providing the funding
necessary to develop and offer this webinar series. Because of this generous grant, we are able
to offer these webinars to local government officials free of charge.
Before we get started, I would like to take a moment to review a few technical details.
1. First, QUESTIONS: please feel free to submit your questions at any time. Simply typethem into the box on the left side of your screen. If youre viewing along with others at
your site, please designate a scribe atyour site to submit your groups questions and to
respond to polls. We plan to respond to questions periodically throughout the webinar
so please keep them coming! We probably will not have time to respond to all questions
but we need to know what is on your mind. Your questions will help guide our planning
for upcoming webinars and will also help us identify additional FAQs that need to be
drafted for the website.
2. [OPTIONAL] Audience feedback indicators3. Second, TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES: On the left hand side of your screen, you will see a
link to a troubleshooting website and a toll-free number to call to listen to the webinar
over the phone. Please use them if you need to. If you are having trouble hearing the
audio presentation, the best solution is usually to call that number. Also note that to
resolve a problem of slides not advancing automatically, try exiting and re-entering the
webinar.
4. [REQUIRED+TODAYS ATTENDANCE: Wed like to get a sense for how many people areattending today. Weve put up a question on your screen asking how many people are
viewing the webinar at your computer or in your conference room? Respond by just
typing in the number and the hitting enter key. Thank you. Wow, thats great weve got

A couple housekeeping points before we begin.
C. For those of you who are new to webinar technology, let me explain what you will seeduring the webinar. Slides will be shown on the right hand side of your screen. The
question box is on the left. Ill say more about submitting questions in a moment.
D. Experiencing trouble? (windows disappear, slides dont appear to be advancing) Simplyclosing and re-opening the webinar window will usually fix the issue.
E. If you are experiencing problems with your audio, the best solution is to call in to thewebinar and listen over the phone. The call-in number is in the box in the lower left of
your screen. If that doesnt work, there is also a URL in the lower-left box that will put
you in touch with the SOG helpdesk.F. [OPTIONAL] The webinar is being recorded, and the online archive will be available for
