suggestions, some thoughts, some challenges to help us stay

focused on our goal of hospitality.

Bishop Morneau: Embracing Hospitality

Seventh step: Awake and Waiting.

In this step, Bishop Morneau chooses two parables known to nearly everyone, The Prodigal Son and The Good Sa-maritan. The father in the first parable is awake and al-ways waiting for his son. Every day watches the road, hoping to see his son coming home. I think the heart of every parent can resonate with that. He watches and waits and when he sees his son, he runs to welcome him home. In the second parable, the Samaritan could have easily walked on by just as the others had. Yet he is awake to the stirrings of compassion in his heart. He pays attention and he responds. Hospitality is watching for others who want to come back home. Perhaps, you will be the person who runs to others and welcomes them back home. Per-haps you will be the one who sees another member of St. Brigid of Kildare suffering and in need of help. Be awake to the stirrings of compassion in your heart. Watch for the opportunities to welcome, to heal, to forgive—these are all keys to hospitality. Stay AWAKE and PRACTICE WAITING this week.

If you are interested in volunteering, please email [email protected] for sign up information. Your help will be greatly appreciat-ed. Thank you!

Religious Education News and Updates

Did you know? Religious Education em-braces all children with special needs. Our SPiCE program (Special People in Catholic Education) allows us to include all children safely in our classrooms, provide adaptive faith formation materials, personal aides, and preparation for the reception of the sacraments of Reconciliation, Eu-charist and Confirmation. We know that every child is a child of God and has the right to enjoy the community of Christ. For more information about our SPiCE program in Religious Education, contact Tina White at twhite@stbrigidofkildare or Andrea Komenda at [email protected] or the Office of Religious Education at (614)761-1176.

Or if you feel God has called you to participate in this ministry by being an aide, contact us today!

How we want to die represents the most important and costly conversation America isn’t having. We are inviting you to dinner so we can talk about death and decisions surrounding death. Msgr. Hendricks, Dr. Tim Coss and attorney Mike Zaino will offer some insights from the faith perspective, the medical perspective and the legal perspective to help answer any questions you might have. End of life decisions are challenging and it is helpful to you and to those you love if you make those decisions ahead of time. --Sister Teresa Tuite, OP

LIMITED to 64 People so we need an RSVP NO LATER than August 30, 2016. To register call the Parish Office or e-mail [email protected] and give your name, address, phone number and e-mail address. Once you have registered we will send a packet of materials.

The St. Brigid of Kildare SPiCE Summer Fitness pro-gram takes place through August 13, 2016. Sign up for each individual session at the

link below. All K-5th grade students in St. Brigid School, Parish, and Religious Ed are welcome, and the program will be especially sensitive to kids with special needs.

To sign up, visit stbrigidofkildare.com and find the "SPICE Summer Fitness Program" link under the Quick Links tab on the top of the page.

ONLY 227 days before Lent 2017

To add to our 10,000 HOUR LENTEN PRAYER CHALENGE and Operation Rice Bowl we are adding a new Station: Lent Madness. It will be an easy way to encourage prayer by learning more about some of the saints and a few other really good people in our religious treas-ury.

There is a Saintly Scorecard, an annual publication containing all 32 first round bios, information about the 32 saints, and lots of information about Lent Madness. Those who wish to be part of the Parish Pool would fill out the registration form, pay $5.00, and submit a completed bracket no later than February 21, 2017. You can also have your own pool or just do it for the en-joyment of learning more about some of the great ones in our faith tradition. The Saintly Scorecard booklet comes out in January, 2017 and will be made available.

You may want to get a little ahead of the crowd by prereg-istering at the MINISTRY WEEKEND. You will be able to pay your $5.00 for the pool and preorder the Saintly

Scorecard booklet for $1.00 during Ministry Weekend. Come to the Adult Faith Formation Table and we will have information and preregistration forms available. Save the bulletins because over the next few weeks more information will be available and it will be cumulative. – Sr. Teresa Tuite, OP

parishioners. You often saw Don and Rose and Mary at Mass and usually sitting in the front row. Mass of Christian Burial was offered for Don on July 1, 2016. May he now rest in peace in the loving, merciful arms of God

We have been collecting glasses at St. Brigid for two years for Vision Health In-ternational. The response from parishion-ers has been wonderful. We have collect-

ed hundreds of glasses that have been put to good use all over Latin and South America. However, Vision Health In-ternational now has a way of making proper prescription glasses on site wherever they may be in the world. There-fore, they no longer need prescription glasses. We have stopped collecting glasses. The Lion’s Club will continue to collect glasses at the Hilliard Library at 4772 Cemetery Road. Thank you for all of your contribu-tions. Phil & Jean Vanic
