Dear Members: I have the honour of writing this leĴer to our members. In Taiwan I was elected to be the President for the coming three years. Thank you to my successors for leading the way before me and having formalized and essentially completed a HETI mission statement. Collaboration, Shared Knowledge, Expertise and Visibil ity are the words that describe my aims in the upcoming three years. I´m certain that our new board members Jil l Carey (Ireland, Treas-urer), Irene Kapari (Greece), Werner Wecker (Germany), Roswitha Zink

(Austria), Jeong-Yi Kwon (South Korea) who were elected for the three year term in April 8, 2015 [and its continuing members Vera Horne (Vice-President, Brasil) and Lorenzo Lucarelli (Spain)] together w ill col-laborate, share know ledge and ex-pertise and help HETI to be more visible. The responsibility for success lies on you, our members. Keep for-warding news and information to this newsleĴer so that everyone can be aware of what is happening inter-nationally. I also urge you to contin-ue providing HETI w ith results of research for consideration in the peer-reviewed Scientięc and Educa-tional Journal of Therapeutic Riding. Remember that our international calendar is there to list courses given in your country. A ll this helps us to be a stronger and more respected organization. Our board w ill be in

touch personally w ith our members. Each person on the Board w ill be taking on a particular task. I am happy of the outcome of the Congress in Taiwan. Thank you Uta RindĚeisch-Wu, for your enor-mous work and eěort to create a scientięcally brill iant and warm at-mosphere w hich invited socializing and mingling. I enjoyed the morning Tai Chi sessions w ith the Master, which kept my body Ěexible during the Congress sessions. The planning of the Congress 2018 has already begun and the website is open: www.heti2018.org Don´t miss the opportunity to join us there! With all the best, Sanna MaĴ ila

The Therapeutic Riding Center of Serres (KETHIS) [also known as HETRICS— Ed.] is a nonproęt or-ganization created in 2005. The cen-ter implements numerous therapeu-tic programs for people w ith disabil i-ties. Therapeutic (or adaptive) riding is beneęcial for children and adults who suěer from physical and/or mental conditions We are happy to announce that two seminars have been successfully concluded. H ippotherapy and Thera-peutic Riding were the programs that took place in our premises. The main concern of (KETHIS) is the dissemination of H ippotherapy and Therapeutic Riding based on HETI principles. The ęrst seminar was actually the sum of part-seminars in Training Therapeuutic riding. Specialised tutors, instructors of physical education, psychologists and riding instructors, aĴ ended this seminar w ith great interest and gained specialized knowledge to help people w ith autism, mental re-tardation and mental i llnesses. We would like to thank the speakers of this Seminar w ho won over the audience: MarieĴ a Schulz w ith her huge experience and Maria Liapi the highly trained and very well organized psychologist of TRAGR We are very proud for our own people who are highly trained and have a huge experience especially in the ground of autism: Chrysa Karra and N iki Vogiaĵ i. Pomes, A lpen Star and Savvina our lovely horses, had the ęrst part role. The second seminar was Level I Hippotherapy Treatment Principles Ed-ucation Course from the American H ippotherapy Association (AHA). It lasted four days but it took several months of talks in order to reach all the criteria and cover all the prereq-uisites of HETI.

It is a great honor for our Centre to be a part of this community and organize an international event like this w hich is globally accepted and certięed. A t the end we had aĴendants from all Greece and also from Dubai, Malta and the United Kingdom, a total of 20 aĴ endees. They varied from physiotherapists, speech thera-pists, occupational therapists and doctors. The seminar speakers Pippa Hodge Gina Taylor from USA and Canada, were highly trained, very

well organized and w ith absolute synchronization between them. They organized the seminar in a perfect way, and they gave all the necessary details in a very comforta-ble way. We have to state also that the therapist teams were magnięcent. We are looking forward to the Level II AHA seminar in our premis-es to conclude the basis of specilisa-tion in H ippotherapy.

Background Horse Assisted Therapy (HAT) is a growing complementary health ac-tivity w ith l iĴ le supporting empirical evidence for the often-claimed bene-ęts to physical and psychological health, including substance abuse related problems. In 2011, Oslo University Hospital (OUS) established a multi-dimensional project to explore the impact of HAT on treatment and outcomes of young substance users, and to contribute to the HAT evi-dence base. The project has quantita-tive and qualitative studies. It is part of the Youth Addiction Treatment Evaluation Project (YATEP). A t ISAM 2012 and the First Nor-dic Research Seminar on Equine As-sisted Therapy, we reported results from a Preliminary Study of 126 cas-es using univariate analysis of HAT and treatment outcome. HAT partici-pants had an almost 4 times beĴer chance of successful treatment out-come than those who had not partici-pated in the horse assisted therapy program (OR 36, CI 16–80, p=<0001).
