One of the main characteristics of theFloor-Type Horizontal Boring Mill WRF, with a Movable Slide Ram and a Movable life Spindle, is its powerful milling and drilling chip removal features (even with top Y-axis stroke) andhigher precision then other machines available on themarket. Its large variation of selectable

parameters iscombinedwith itsbroadofferingof operating functions. Its main feature is aModular Concept that allows great productionvariability and rapid setup through the use of Peripheral Tools and Accessories.

Themachinemovesin4differentaxes(X,Y,Z, W).AnadditionalBand/orV-axisiscreated

when the Rotary Table is added to the machine. Several Clamping Plates can be joined together, orincombinationwithaRotaryTabletoachievespecializedconfigurations,easilyandquickly.

The basic model of the machine comes with a HEIDENHAIN iTNC 530 System, HEIDENHAIN Scales, Fanuc 31i, Siemens 840D.

The main working purpose of the machine is chip removal from spacious and weighty steel, cast steel, or cast iron workpieces. The machine’s technologyallows itswideutilizationinmilling,

Ram Toachievethebestfeaturesoftheramductileiron,awholecomplexofannealingmethodshavebeenapplied.Slide RamDeflection is compensatedwith the help of two Ballscrews (the so-called Gantry Axis) and two LinearPositioningScales.Thankstothis,maximumsafetywithhighprecisionandqualityproductionscanbeconsistentlyensured.

Column(Y-axis) The construction of the column and the slides form a unique X-braced welded construction. Maximum rigidity and firmness of such a unison is achieved through the process of thermal stabilization, which ultimately also leads to increased precision and rigidity of the metal-working procedure.

Headstock Cast from special ductile iron, the Spindle Box contains a Ram Travel Drive, a Life Spindle and a Two-Speed Gearbox, which is guided automatically by spindle revolutions. A modern Servomotor is used to control the fluency of revolutions.

Bed The bed of the machine is made of gray cast-iron, and is stabilized through annealing. It was constructed in order to absorb the maximum amount of vibrations which arecreatedduringthecuttingprocess.Theupperpart features heavy duty Schneeberger Roller LinearGuideways,furthercontributingtotheprecision and rigidity of the machine.

Operator’sPlatform TheOperator’sPlatformisplacedonaVerticallyAdjustableHydraulicPlatform,whichislinkedtothecolumn, via a console. This enables its horizontal movement together with the column. Inside the cabin, there is the Main Control Panel and a Prepared Storage Area for machine tools. The platform isequipped with suitable protection covers and alockabledoor,whichissecuredbyelectromagneticswitches. The operator’s platform can be equipped withhorizontal (550mm / 21.65 in.) and vertical (1300mm/51.18in.)adjustment.

An integral part of the machine is a Hydraulic Aggregate used for clamping and unclamping of a tool from the spindle. On the front side, there is a liquid level gauge, with a thermometer, for visual level and temperature checks of oil in the tank.

Lubricationoflinearguidewaysandballscrews(X, Y, and Z-axis) is performed by a speciallubricationunit. The Central Lubrication System is designedwith progressive dividers that distribute specificamounts of lubricant.

Hydraulic Aggregate

LubricationUnit Roller LinearGuideways enable a higher speed ofmovement and a smaller force needed forthe machine’s movement. This results in higher accuracy of positioning, with smaller energyconsumption,andlongeroperatinglifeforcomponentssuchasballscrews,servomotors,etc. Simpleconstructionsuggestssimpleupkeepingandsimplified,quickereventualrepairs.FERMATpresentsasolutionthatrequiresalmostnoservicing.

LinearGuideways

Ballscrews Y, Z, and W-axis movement is facilitated byballscrewswiththefavorablecharacteristicofverylowfriction. Thanks to theprecision tolerances betweenthenutandthescrew,highrigidityandexactitudeisachieved.

Rack Horizontal X-axis movement is secured by a rack, with two pinions, that are in a Master-Slave relationship.

Telescopic Cover Guiding surfaces are covered lengthwise withtelescopic covers.

Control Systems and MotorsControl Systems and Motors

Control System As a control system, there is either a Heidenhain iTNC 530, a Siemens Sinumerik 840 D, or a Fanuc 31i equipped with an LCD display, an operating panel with a keyboard, and an electronic hand-wheel. The control system coordinates the continuity of all the axes, and also when peripheral tools are attached, such as a rotary table or a milling head.

linear Encoders, Heidenhain The X, Y, and Z-axes are equipped with Linear Encoders that ensure the accuracy of the machine.

The W-axis is measured directly from the Servomotor Encoder.

Measurement of spindle revolutions is performed by the Rotary Encoder that allows for the desired positioning of the spindle.

All final positions of the particular axes are secured by a Limit Switch.

Servomotors There are four, digitally-governed servomotors enabling the autonomous X, Y, Z, W-axes movement.

Switchboard All the electric control elements are concentrated in a Switchboard, which is placed on the back side of the column. All elements come from renowned manufacturers.

Rotary Table T 25, T40, T50Special Accessories

Rotary Table T 25, T40, T50 The Table consists of Bed, Slide, and Rotary Clamping Plate. Slide enablestherotaryclampingplatetomoveintheV-axis.Theclampingplate isfittedtoaCrossRollerTaperBearingResistancethatsecureshigh load capacity with minimal passive resistance. In order to achieve precision in workpieces, the rotary table is hydraulically clamped at eightpointstoavoidrotationduringtheworkingprocess.

The table is governed by the Control System of the machine, and there is a Rotary Encoder in the middle of it that facilitates the automaticpositioningofthetableinincrementsof0.001°.

The WFT 12, 13, 130 CNC and WRFT 130, 150,160CNC represent a specificTableTypeofhorizontal boring mills. The former is a version with aMovable Life Spindle;whereas the latterpossesses a Movable Ram. Among the machine charakteristics there is a powerful milling anddrillingchipremoval(evenwithtopY-axisstroke)and higher precision then other machines

available on the market. A modular concept allows great operational variability in configurations,according to the client’s requirements. Modern controlsystems(usuallyHeidenhain)provideverycomfortable manipulation of the machine andmany useful functions for the user. HorizontalBoringMillsWRFT offer 6 axes travel (X, Y, Z,V, W and B) while WFT adopt the movement

on5axes.Givenadditionaloptionalaccessories,it is possible to increase number of controlled axes. During the metal processing, the columnofthemachineadoptsZ-axismovementandtheworkpieces are clamped on a rotary table that travelsintheX-axis.

Operator’sPlatform The Operator’s Platform is placed on aVerticallyAdjustableHydraulicPlatform,whichis linked to the column via a console. This can be equippedforahorizontal(550mm/21.65in.)aswellasvertical(1300mm/51.18in.)movement.Inside the cabin, there is the Main Control Panel and a Prepared Storage Area for machine tools. The platform is equipped with suitableprotectioncoversanda lockabledoor,which issecuredbyelectromagneticswitches.

Lubricationof the linearguidewaysandballscrews (X,Y,Z,Vand B-axes)isperformedbyaspeciallubricationunit. TheCentralLubricationSystemisdesignedwithprogressivedividersthatdistributespecificamountsoflubricant.

An integral part of the machine is a Hydraulic Aggregate used for the clamping and unclamping of tools from the spindle and for the fixationof the rotary table. On the front side, there is a Liquid Level Gauge,with a Thermometer, for visual level and temperature checks of the oil in the tank.

Ballscrews Y,Z,W,andV-axesmovementisfacilitatedbyballscrewswiththefavorablecharacteristicof very low friction. Thanks to the precisiontolerances between the nut and the screw, high rigidityandexactitudeisachieved.

Telescopic Cover Guidingsurfacesarecoveredlengthwiseandcrosswise with telescopic covers.

Roller Linear Guideways enable a higherspeed of movement and a smaller force needed forthemachineX,Y,Z,andV–axesmovements(onlyWRFTseries).Thisresultsinaconsistentlyhigheraccuracyofpositioning,smallerenergyconsumption, and longer operating life ofthe components, such as the ballscrews, servomotors, gears, etc. Simple construction suggests simpleupkeeping and simplified, quicker eventualrepairs. FERMAT presents a solution that requiresalmost no servicing.

LinearGuideways

Control System As a control system, there is either a Heidenhain iTNC 530, a Siemens Sinumerik 840 D, a Fanuc 31i or 32i,equippedwithLCDdisplay,anoperatingpanelwitha keyboard, and an electronic hand-wheel. The control system coordinates the continuity of all the axes,andalsowhenperipheral tools areattached, suchas a rotary table or a milling head.

Servomotors There are digitally-governed servomotors enabling autonomousX,Y,Z,W,BandV-axesmovement.
