Posted: 11/17/2014 by parentA high-quality education reflects the whole school experience, and that's why Hoover excels: it pays attention to every aspect of a child's development, andhis/her learning, emotional, and social growth. Teachers are well-trained, dedicated, and eager to help children learn in an open, cooperative environment,usually adapted to a child's learning abilities. Teacher-student ratio is good. Curricula is strong; with music, art, integrated technology (ipads), PE, strong literacy,math, science. The focus on health, social relationships, and character-building shows how Hoover fosters the whole well-being of children. The manyextracurricular activities encourage learning and community experiences. The Principal is doing a good job bringing the school up to excellent standing. As aneighborhood school, most parents and students know and support each other. Are there areas that need improvement? Yes, but that happens in every school.The facilities are old; the MCAS scores were down a bit (they're going up now). But education is more than a building and standardized tests. We are verypleased because our child is immensely happy, learning and thriving, at Hoover.

Posted: 8/3/2009 by parentI believe the school offers average academics, however, the culture of the school prohibits progress upward and forward. A few of the teachers are trulyexceptional and devoted to the students, but several seem to simply do the minimum job required.

Posted: 2/21/2008 by parentOverall, I have been disappointed with the overall quality of the education my children have received. I have great hopes that the current principal will help turnthings around, but that may take a few years. There is a definite problem with the school culture; a lack of professionalism, a 'clubbiness' amongst the staff. Manystaff members also have children in the school, which has led to a lack of confidentiality and gossipy behavior that undermines the educational mission of theschool. There is a definite lack of consistency in the quality of instruction..teachers on each grade level team don't always teach the same content; some don'treach the grade level benchmarks. There seems to be no accountability with the teaching staff, they seem to do as they please. I hope the new principal willrestore parent confidence in the school, it is at an all time low.
